And that's what the survivor tournament really is, as long as your selection shows or better, you advance.

1:49.1 for the fastest mile in Meadowlands history. And you hate to criticize a historic effort like that, but to me it looked like she got an awful ride.

Yeah, her drive could have been a bit better but whew, that mare just looks so effortless. Homicide Hunter got a respectable 4th and the horses were FLYING tonight. It just kills me that STB racing isn't as big as TB racing, our racing is much more consistent but some incredible horses each and every year. Plus our horses race past 3 even the "big names", heck I remember if you weren't racing your colts at 4 or even 5 do not show up at the shed. On a side note, Scott Zeron is a serious threat out there.

The passing of a Derby winner is always noteworthy. Sea Hero was 29.

Oh wow, that one hurts a little. I’ve never been one to follow celebrities as though I know them. But if you grew up where I did, she was sort of a meta-celebrity. She just “was.”

May she live on in all the Birds!

And drifting a bit I remember watching a video of her at an Eclipse Awards. Signs of what looked like a stroke. But so kind and such gracefulness. Then my mind drifted to wouldn't it be nice if some tv producer made a real reality show featuring stories of her and Penny and women like them. I have to watch my step as to not be called a sexist, but younger girls learning of their traits. The drive, giving, caring about things. Not that boys could not learn either, really wasn't going there.

It would not be trashy, or feature bikinis. I guess it would not make it.

So...they are still racing at Monmouth Park today. The Haskell looks interesting - 7 horses, all familiar names. Total of 14 races today, and a few graded stakes. Commenting on the Haskell now, haven't looked closely at the other races yet.

1) King for a Day
JOCKEY / John R. Velazquez
TRAINER / Todd A. Pletcher

2)Joevia
JOCKEY / Jose Lezcano
TRAINER / Gregory D. Sacco

3)Spun to Run
JOCKEY / Paco Lopez
TRAINER / Juan Carlos Guerrero

4 )Bethlehem Road
JOCKEY / Luis A. Rodriguez Castro
TRAINER / Dee Curry

5)Mucho Gusto
JOCKEY / Joseph Talamo
TRAINER / Bob Baffert

6) Everfast
JOCKEY / Julien R. Leparoux
TRAINER / Dale L. Romans

7) Maximum Security
JOCKEY / Luis Saez
TRAINER / Jason Servis

My thoughts....I like the (1) and (7). (3) and (4) are interesting long shots. (5) and (6) are ??? in my book. So... @aubie what are your thoughts on this one?

First broken record time. I just don't leave Johnny V for Pletcher off tickets. So definitely using the one. Plus he beat MS on the square last time out. And it's not like MS didn't run. He did and came back with a good Beyer.

I like the (5) . And it's not like I don't like Joe Talamo. I really do, from the Jockeys TV show one. I think in the future he fills Gary's and Mike's spot. That said today Mike is in town ridding in the Monmouth Cup for Pletcher. I totally get why Bob isn't using, but would have liked at the same time. Either way, he's a play.

The (2)(6) are my mix ins. I'm think the way to go is small wheels. It's a small field. Will have big pools but still I don't see MS missing the board completely. So thinking nwork those numbers around him, but give room for some of them to com together.

Maximum Security - his trainer was down on him before the last race, almost scratched him. And the stumble at the start. I still think it's his to lose....that said, more surprising things have happened this year. So...
