Nice placing, but I think the Best Condition says a lot about your horsemanship, too. Congratulations

@Avna : glad to hear the trailer is sold. I am sure you will be driving the new one as confidently as the old one in no time.

@boots : love the balloon pic - that festival must be something to see. I can't imagine dealing with weather like that.. do you keep a full wardrobe in your vehicle?

@Celeste : a Wintec saddle for your bday sounds pretty nice to me! hope it's one you can use.

@waresbear : Otis is a handsome guy! I am sure you are as happy to have him home as he is to be there.

@lsdrider : BC - FANTASTIC!!!! that trumps a win to me any day. great weekend for sure. obviously time to move up to 50s.

The unofficial photog at the last ride got her pics posted. There are lots more in my journal, as well as an update on Sultan & George.

Phin channeling his inner QH!

My daylight hours are still filled with potatoes, though tomorrow I may be getting a break..

The BC was quite humbling. I feed her, water her, and sometimes suggest a different gait.

She's not quite ready for a 50 - the sand, hills and general stamina need a little more time - but we did put in 25 miles on Sunday with an "extended" CMO, lol.

Caught a lucky break at work today! An out of town job that would have potentially interrupted part of my vacation and superseded the last planned race of the year has been delayed 2 weeks. Fancy and I will therefore be cruising northern MI in pursuit of squirrels and elk for 11 days then participating in the final GLDRA event of the year.(!)

I do! Along with below zero sleeping bag, 3-4 days of food, 3-4 days of water, material to start wet wood for fire, and TP!

Then there are my boots, helmet, felt or straw hat, a general purpose saddle, a couple bridles... and supplies for home health therapy visits.

One of my grandsons looked in the backseat of my truck and asked "Grandma, are you a hoarder?" Hmmph. Everything has, and is in, its place!

This is a screenshot from the video my DIL took yesterday. No comment from me:

Riders ask "How?" Horsemen ask "Why?"

Went out late this afternoon to ride my good old horse. It was 43 with a stiff wind blowing.

Old bay was off by himself, hiding in a run-in shed. When I approached he took off. Tail flagged, head high. He settled within three minutes and was a gentleman while tacking up. We rode through some deer, a lot of deer, and he tried to tell me these were different deer. Horse eating deer. Spooked and jiggled around. Good grief.

We passed a large boulder and he said there was a mtn lion behind it, but I didn't believe him.

I said in the "bad habit" thread that I talk to my horse, but I didn't consider it a bad habit. With issues of importance like we have we just have to talk.

I hear ya Boots. Wind was strong the other day, trees creaking. All three spooked at something when I rode them. My most easily distracted, spookiest horse only jumped slightly, once, when a tree branch broke off in the woods, my steadiest guys, Otis & Scotty were jumping a bit more. No mountain lions though, but I was watching for bears, saw none.

I am not here to promote anythingNo, that's not true, I am here to promote everything equestrian and everyone enjoying horses!

Well Happy Equinox everybody! It's an unusual one for me, the weather has turned cool. Normally we are roasting September and October, hottest months of the year. So I have started my chopping and trimming early. It could get hot again next month, but I call this a cool summer. We had a few spikes, but it generally very nice.
