@Avna That is terrible about the boarding experience that you had. I'm sure that there are good facilities in your area, but I certainly see why you don't want to board.

My two grandkids were over for a few days. Luckily, we had one day where the heat index didn't hit triple digits and I took them out for a short ride. I went a little over three miles one way with one and my wife met me there with the other grandkid, who rode back with me. Turning all the way around in the saddle to snap some photos while moving, isn't as easy as it once was. BTW, the two adopted pit bulls loved them and they loved the pit bulls.

This made me laugh so hard I had to share it.
Service animals are allowed on trains (where I work). About 95% of what we encounter are not service animals but we look the other way. On occasions we have to deal with the equivalent of this and the people get mad at us when we tell them NO!

@LoriF : you are smart to wait until your filly is ready. there will be lots of time when she is physically ready (but waiting sure stinks!).

@Avna : sorry to hear about your bad boarding experience. being able to find a suitable kennel can be a big chore.

@charrorider : glad you got some saddle time, and with the GDs too!

@LoriF : that video was hysterical, and unfortunately it's very true. I was in the grocery store the other day and witnessed a woman with a freaking out jack russell type dog that was barking and charging at people and knocking things off shelves, etc.. some service dog!!

This weekend was Nicole's riding party. The whole story is in my journal. Polo and I took a group around Saturday.

Yesterday, we FINALLY got some rain. It meant we only got inside projects done, but we needed the rain very badly so sure weren't complaining. We got over an inch of rain and you would never know it today - I swear you could hear the plants slurping!

Yesterday, I got George out. The whole story is in my journal.

Today it has been raining off and on all day, which has been wonderful. I will have to mow the lawn later this week, but that is much better than the grass going crunch!

@charrorider - the ride with the grandkids looked like a lot of fun. Oh, to have shaded trails to ride on. And you aren't that far from me!

@LoriF - our Lowe's and TSC are "dog friendly," and some of the dogs I've seen in there make me wonder about their owners. I just have to shake my head.

Several years back, while I still lived in KS, my sister and her God-daughter swung by after being up in Iowa for an Amish auction where she'd bought an 18h white percheron mare, and a 33" black mini-stallion. We stopped to eat at a restaurant next to a PetSmart. After lunch, the God-daughter got Derringer - the mini - out of the horse trailer and walked him through PetSmart, looking at stuff. I think they ended up buying a dog toy for the horse. You should have seen the other shoppers (and their dogs) expressions! Priceless!!

@phantomhorse13 - you can have 3 out of our 4-5 weekly rains for awhile. I need some riding time when it isn't sweltering/melting weather!

This weekend I moved some stuff into the shed. So far, 4 of 7 saddles, 10 bales of hay, 2 feed barrels, and some other assorted tack:

After that, I had to do my weekly poop scooping. I had supervision:

Tango thinks supervising is thirsty work. Right after I took this picture, he grabbed my water bottle and walked off with it!

Same here at the Lowes, HD, and TS.

I was standing in line one day at TS with my older Standard Poodle and the lady in front of me had four little dogs in her basket going ape because they saw my dog. The lady is telling me all about how much she loves her little brats and that she can't keep them from pooping all over her house. And THEN, she proceeds to take the most aggressive of the little monsters out of the basket and puts him on the floor with no leash and he charges my girl who is just standing there and looking at me to offer a little help. I was seriously ready to snatch the little turd and chuck him but he didn't bite so all was well. People can be a trip.
My young girl still hasn't completely learned that strangers are off limits in stores so when people ask me if they can pet her or give her treats, I tell them no. She really loves people so for now I have to be strict with her until she learns.

What would have been really funny would be the looks on their faces if you brought the percheron in to pick out her toy.

There will be only one of you for all time. Fearlessly be yourself.

I tried to talk my Sis into taking the Percheron out of the trailer, but she was worried someone might get stepped on. Between huge and tiny horses, she also had her two aussies, who loved to do tricks and were delighted to "perform" for the audience that gathered.

@Change : we are supposed to be getting more rain next week, otherwise I would happily take some off your hands.

@LoriF : I didn't know Lowes and HD were pet friendly.. wonder if that is everywhere? I have never seen anybody with a non-service dog in either. I will have to ask, as Mia loves coming in to TSC with me.

Today, I got George out. The whole story is in my journal.

Tomorrow, we head for Vermont!

@Avna : was thinking of you this weekend as we were up your way!

This weekend, DH and I went north for the Moonlight in Vermont endurance ride. The whole story is in my journal.

Friday, I got to pre-ride on a friend's horse as he was being the parking attendant:

Saturday, Flo and I did the 75 miler.

Today I have spent editing things, doing laundry, and trying to get the mess from the weekend cleaned up between storms..
