Most horse that are selling for that price are eventers
If horses are selling for 1K max then why would you ask if a not very well trained odd breed horse would be worth more?

They won't listen to me so if I show them all you have said they might understand and drop the price.
If they don't get him sold soon he most likely will go to the knackery! :(

Good idea!

Remember, too, that a horse can have a heretofore unknown & untapped talent, like that $80 horse who became an international star. It's our job to find what the horse is good at & enjoys.

I think he would make a great trail horse or maybe a cow horse like my brothers Standardbred who now LOVES going around the cows and will fight with me over who's in charge of rounding them up.

The way to lose friends is to tell them they're wrong.

What they sell their horse for doesn't really affect you, I'd probably just keep to yourself. Logically, they're not going to advertise a horse for $4000 then send him to the knackery when it doesn't work out. If they get no responses they'll probably reduce the price until he sells. If they ask your advice you could just say diplomatically that the horse market isn't great, and if they need to sell they could offer a lower price, or also tell them that a horse in work is a lot easier to sell than one out of work.

I think an overweight trail horse will sell fine as long as he trials okay, and they ask a realistic price.

I would have kept to myself but they did ask what I thought, but they just laughed and said you don't know everything about horses.
And they not exactly what you call horse lovers and if they didn't like the horse they wouldn't care if it went to the knackery.
The only reason they had Horses was because we had them and when we didn't grow out of them they didn't like us. Very complicated and annoying:(

I agree with saskia. Your over stepping your bounds. They will either get what they want or they wont

It's based on market conditions. My trainer has a dressage mare with health problems listed for $5000 but didn't get any interest in her so she slashed the price down to $1500. Still no buyers.

Op just because you have an opinion on the price of the horse doesn't mean your friends want to hear it.
Unsolicited advice is often met with hostility. If they think that horse is worth 4000$ then to them it is. Let them continue to believe that. if he is not they will soon find no buyers. Shalom
