Horses licking each other...huh?
Yeah, weird I know. But the other day I had just brought up my mares from the field a half hour ago, look out at them, and one (the ex broodmare) was liking the other one's back right hock! They had both been sprayed with bug spray before they went out, but that had been close to three hours ago. The one who was being liked had had a tiny cut on her hock (smaller than a dime) about a week ago, but with some cream it healed up just fine (she probably hurt herself while rolling).
Now, we've had the ex broodmare for about a year and a half, and she's never done this before. She's always been very friendly with the other mare (whose the boss) and the other mare gets rather irritated with her- the ex broodmare will sniff her belly, under her tail, etc. But this time, she didn't seem to care that the ex broodmare was LICKING her! She was so wet I had to wipe her down with a towel.
I've been calling the licker the "ex broodmare" because she's very nurturing- she sniff's in my mom and my hair, occasionally
licks our hands. Was she just trying to be friendly? I took her to the salt block and she stated licking that... did she just want salt?
This was a couple days ago, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with either of them... anyone else run into anything weird like this?
