How do you measure how many hands?

Sooo from my understanding you measure at the highest point of the wither with a ruler or something flat going across the wither to the tape to find the height of your horse. I have measured her this way and I have had others measure and she comes to 14.2 each time but I know that other ppl measure at the highest point of the wither and wrap it over the wither some. So which way is correct?

I know that when you measure yourself you measure straight across like when the doctor gets your height...if you measure by wrapping it adds height.

Do it as straight as you can, you will get the best number.

Highest point of th wither but don't lean on the tape or lay it flat on the horses skin. Because you will get something higher then what they actually are.
