Around 1,800 a year for one horse based on average of hay, grain and farrier bill. He is not boarded.

This doesn't include the entries I pay almost every weekend from March until November/ December ranging from $47 to $90 on average, to $200 and up for a few big shows. At least he wins some of that back.

I am not here to promote anythingNo, that's not true, I am here to promote everything equestrian and everyone enjoying horses!

Ehhh, I paid about $800 a month for board, special feed, farrier trims, and supplements. That was for just 1 horse. Plus I had all of his vaccinations and any surprise vet visits. Darn expensive horses!

Strength is not defined by physical ability. It is determined by your actions and the compassion of your soul.

One horse.

Board: $175/month in summer (outdoors, no arena), $350/month in winter (outdoors board, heated arena) - total: $3150.

Feed and minerals: $460/year (one 40lb bag every three weeks)

Joint supplement: $240/year

Farrier: $450/year ($50 every 6 weeks)

Routine vet care (e.g. teeth), vaccines and deworming: $400/year

Non-routine vet care: was ~$1200 this year so far (Jan-Sept)

Total: $5861/year.

Plus lessons, trainer (haven't done much of either this year yet), hauling ($80 / day for trailer rental, plus gas), tack and other supplies (halters, fly spray, blanket wash and repair etc).

Over the summer a friend of mine was going to buy the horse I wanted and split costs with me; long story there. I ended up not going through with it because with school it would have been to much.... Anyway...

With feed, grain, shoes, vet, insurance it would have cost me roughly $200 a month, or $400 for the both of us. That doesn't include extras like fly spray, tack, equipment, emergencies, park passes, lessons, shows, etc. Regular upkeep would be about $5000, with the extras probably about $6,000-$7,000 yearly.
