How much should i feed a foal

Well i have my two new babies and now im wondering how much should i feed them, i am giving them each two parts hay day and night, and half a scoop of feed twice a day, they seem to get through it rather well and they love their hard food, and the hay is always gone by the time the next feeding is ready.

they are both about 8-9hands high and have quite rotund bellies although they have just been wormed. they were on grass diet before i got them and they are in without turnout until i can halter them and lead them and we are coming on leaps and bounds with bailey but archie still wont let me rub him without him getting aggitated.

talk to your vet, read your feed bag, and increase or decrease depending on how the look. it may take a few weeks for feed changes to show. most young horses, ponies and minis should be fat, it puts too much stress on their growing stuctures. there is a body appearance scale, forget whats its called, but you want a young equine to be on the lower end of it, but of course not emaciated or starving.

How are you doing with the foals. My foals also are on no turnout until I can lead them really well. Caddo is doing okay not as good as I thought he would do but Maggie on the other hand is doing really good. Maggie might get to be turned out next week if she keeps progressing well. Caddo though is just adorable and wants to please but wants to play as well. Keep us posted on your progress.
