I studied, travelled, worked, and finally put down my roots in Spain ...
Bondre, really? Me, too! What part? I'm in La Mancha, outside Toledo.
I was in love with horses as a child and grew up on the same farm where my mother had a horse when she was young. I was constantly asking for a horse. The barn was still there, but completely empty, and even though I insisted, my parents' answer was always "no".
I was sent to summer riding camps, rode friends' horses, and babysat the neighbors old gelding, but I never rode regularly until college (Mount Holyoke - fabulous riding program). After college, I moved to Spain and got caught up in city living, marriage, kids (2 boys) and the building a house in the country. Now here, there is a riding center in our village and I started riding lessons again on March 1. It was like opening Pandora's box! I started riding every day, and by April 1 I had my own horse!
Unfortunately, by April 22 I had had my first fall and broken my back. So, the horse is being sold, and I am on the road to recovery. I hope to be able to start all over again by Sep/Oct, with school horses. My ultimate goal is to be able to buy another horse because I love being able to ride whenever I want, and I find communication/working with horses very rewarding, especially when the horse knows you are its "leader". Even if I can never ride again, I am considering taking up driving.
