And I finally get to canter...

I just got back from my lesson, and I have to share! Today, my instructor put me on a lunge line and I finally got to canter! "Cantering" meaning actually cantering for more than 2 strides. It was really fun, but my horse has the stride of a giant. And, because she's so silly, she bucked a few times, but my instructor told me that she was just "tossing her head". Not until I put her in the paddock did she say, "oh yeah. Goose bucked while you we're cantering." I seriously had to squeeze the cantle of the saddle (front part, right?) and hold the reins with one hand, because I was shaking so hard I thought I might just slide off. By the last circle, my instructor encouraged me to let go, and I got the movement, hand still hovering at the saddle pad for emergencies. I was also told that I get to show next month. Yeah, 4 lessons at this awesome stable and I get to show in a low-level dressage class at a local fall fair, on Thanksgiving. If cantering for the first time, and getting to compete in a show doesn't get you excited, well then... I dunno. But it gets me!
Thanks for listening to my rant, everyone. I just had to share!

Sounds like fun :). Cantering for the first time is always an exciting experience, although like you said it can be scary. Good luck at your show.
