This is my first REAL time doing it. I've been "involved" (i.e. sitting on a horse opening a gate, or pushing them from one pen to another) but this time it was just me and one other guy going after all of them in their field. I'm hooked! It was SO much fun.
I rode one of the horse's I train, Dara, who I was a little scared of at first because she's kind of hot and I don't know her that well. However she really worked today.
We were trying to sneak around to the top of the field so they wouldn't run up the mountain, but they saw us, so we had to make a mad dash to the top of the hill before they did. We were running hard and I didn't have time to think about being worried for Dara, we just had to MOVE. We got there in the nick of time and the cow dog Rock helped us bring 'em in :)
Dara and I went through a LOT of ditches and bogs, and she jumped most of them which was fine, but she hit one she didn't see in the tall grass and went on her knees with me. We're now muddy from the waist down and splashed a little extra "color"...But all was okay and we continued on.
I got lost from the other guy once, but heard him yelling for me, so yet another mad dash...Hehe. I'm not complaining. It was fun. We had trouble at the gate, one cow made a break for it and got past us but we couldn't chase her, because the others were about to do the same thing. We had to leave her and get the others through the gate instead.
It was too funny. Boss went up to the house when we left to call the neighbors, to have them stand and block traffic (We had to cross the road) and "have a shot of whiskey." We had the cows down there before the people were even out of their houses! They had to run down their driveways to the road. It was crazy! Still, it was a blast, I loved it, and I look forward to finishing up with them tomorrow. We still have to brand the calves and all that.
I could get used to this!
