:oops::lol:

Oh Lordie...

As most of you know, I don't own a horse. But within the past 7 months, my tack collection has EXPLODED!!! This is what I have bought (or asked for and/or gotten as gifts) in that time frame:
  • A one ear dark oil headstall
  • A jointed snaffle
  • A navy horse Halter
  • A navy lead
  • Leather roper reins
  • Multicolor Rope roper reins
  • Oster Grooming kit
  • Rubber Curry
  • Sweat Scraper
  • Braiding comb
  • Snaps for my leather reins (I didn't like the size of the ones on it)
  • A pair of spurs
  • Spur straps
  • And I just bought a saddle pad today
Oh...not to mention I have I ordered a saddle pad wednesday that should be here within the week. And that is in 7 months!!!

I feel lucky I came out of TSC with just the saddle pad and the clearance sponge. THe store was having a clearance sale on a bunch of horse tack, and I almost bought both $15 clearance curb bits, another set of reins, and a set of front leg boots. I have half a mind to go back tomorrow and buy the boots.

Anybody else have a tack problem?

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Oh my goodness, that is hilarious!!! At the rate I'm going, I think I'll be tack ***** before next winter.

Um, yes. You are not alone. Before the fire, we had enough tack to fully tack up 7 horses and we would have still had several bridles left over. We do have 8 rideable horses, but the most we have ever tacked up at once (when not at a roping or a show) was 4.

I am a bridle fanatic. Counting snaffles and curbs both, I bet I have 15 or 16 full, useable bridles LOL.

I have a tack room filled with saddles, a huge trunk of sprays, bits, and brushes with my brand new pad that I don't want to get dirty, saddles in both of my trailers, a rope halter hanging in my front doorway, lead ropes all over my house, a couple halters in my room, a helmet in my room, my show helmet in my trailer, brushes/other grooming stuff in my bog trailer, a gallon of fly spray in the back of my truck along with some other stuff, bridles galore hanging up in nails covering an entire wall of my barn in rows and in crates in the barn, extra halters thrown here and there, first aid stuff in the camel barn, and a lot of other stuff. I'm getting a new show saddle in the spring.
I think I have a problem..

Even though you don't have a horse, it's good to be prepared! Believe it or not, when you do get a horse, it's all those little things that add up! :)

I know it! I just finished my inventory of non-depreiable items for FFA. (between show clothes, tack, grooming stuff, disposables, and books) I own no saddle, no chaps, no WP show shirts; nothing over $100 in value.

I estimated I have about $1,000 worth of stuff right now. And I can say that will be a chunk of change when I go to buy my first horse.

I am a tack *****. I don't actually have a whole lot, but if I had the money... :D I would have so much. Especially colourful show tack. I don't compete or anything as of right now and probably not in the immediate future, but I would definitely go for a trail ride with blinged out conchos everywhere.

#13 ·
Hahaha!!!

Unless its shiny or a pretty color, I don't buy it. And it definately is coming home if it meets both those requirements!

#12 ·
I bought tons of grooming brushes before I got back into horses after having several years away and not having any of my "old things" A tack shop was going out of business and I couldnt help myself :p

Tack *****...lol , I love that!
There is a 4H tack swap coming up but my hubby & I are going to a sportsman show that very same day, if I dont go he'll know why....

Makes me think of fishing; throw in a shiny, spinnig metally thing and you'd catch , . . YOU!
Well...I'm not allowed down the fishing asile anymore.:lol::lol:

And poesidon, that reminds me of a pair of socks I had that the entire bottom toe part had ripped, but I still wore them until my mother threw them away and forced me to buy new ones.

I'm very glad Abby happens to look good in purple (though her best colour would be turquoise..I'm not buying new tack anytime soon) because I got my bright halter before her. I have a bright purple Reinsman pad, my saddle's seat is purple ostrich. Her SMBs and bell boots are bright purple. Hahaha.

I want a pair of fancy boots for myself. I love my Ariats, but they're not exactly flashy anymore because of what happened this summer (see picture below). It's been sewn back together and there's a big patch over it. I oiled the boots to match the patch better, but it's very plain and just looks odd now. They still do their job though.

The second picture is basically what the patch looks like, but plain brown leather. I duct taped it right afterwards because if I tried wearing them without the other piece, I would destroy my ankle. (I was also working at camp and had to wear them for the rest of the week before I could get them to the leather guy in town).

My friend works at RCC on random weekends so she gets a 40% discount, so I may splurge.

I was working a rental this summer, but not as a wrangler. I had free time because I didn't have a cabin, so I'd come down after all of my stuff was done and help with trail rides with the wranglers. I was riding Po, but was late, so I was almost loping to catch up. I HATE the feeling of my ankles being all sweaty in the middle of the July heat, so I tuck in my jeans into my boots.

Po was trotting next to the fence and there was a bolt and washer sticking out just enough to catch the loop at the top. Since she was going fairly fast, it just tore my boot in half. It took a bit of effort to dislodge the torn half.

I split a pair of old Levis that day too. It was just fantastic. Hahah.

Just think what that could have done to your SKIN!!!

Once when I was a kid I was trotting along bareback and another kid was trotting toward me (on a saddled horse) and she passed so close to me that MY foot caught in her stirrup, ripped it around so fast that it sprained my ankle!! all without me touching the ground!

I know, right? It's been cold, so I've worn long socks with my jeans out so nobody in my equine class has seen it. I'm waiting for it to get warmer and someone being like 'Erm.. what?"

Sorry for hijacking this thread! Back to shiny amazing tack! Next investment: Breastcollar! The place I got my saddle from has a matching one with a headstall, but it's $90. Eh..not happening soon. Hopefully they're decent quality. I got my saddle online and it cost $300 with shipping. It was cheap and I was expecting it to be cheap, but it's nicer than I was expecting. When I switched barns, I had to have my new BO trailer Abby to the new place and he thought it was nicer than one would think for that price.

I had emailed a couple people who had bought the same saddle (the guy has an eBay store, so I creeped through the reviews) and apparently it's held up for a few years and still looks very new. It's super comfy though!

This is it.

Are you suggesting I get that saddle? It is kinda cool in a strange way. I think it could grow on me, or me on it.
But I don't think I want a barrel saddle. I don't like the high forks and horn. I think a trail saddle is more what I want, In fact, I think I want a hornless wester/trail. I hate it when I am cantering up a hill and my shirt gets hooked over the horn. If I didn't have a belly that crosses state lines it might not happen, but I do and it does.

#24 ·
Oh no, I was just adding it to the discussion of loudly coloured tack. I must have missed that you were even in the market for a saddle.

Have you tried endurance saddles? My old BOs were endurance riders and their saddles were basically hornless western saddles that must have been comfy if they had to sit in them so long.

Bah. Sorry for confusing all of this. awkward.

Oh, lets see... As we're moving, my entire study is full of tack awaiting a uhaul truck, and I didn't even know we had that much stuff until I had to pack it all.

One English saddle
Three western saddles
A bareback pad
About a dozen bridles we don't use regularly (some of these are missing parts)
About a half-dozen spare halters
4+ blankets (we only blanket one of our horses, and none of these fit him)
Several sets of boots (for horses), which we don't use
Numerous wraps (which we don't use)
4 western saddle pads, 3 English, 2 "theraputic" pads
Numerous brushes, picks, leads
5 bits, 1 hackamore
A mounting stirup
About 15 girths of various sizes and disciplines
Two breast collars
Boots for riders (that don't fit us)

Fortunately, we got a lot of it for free, including one of the western saddles, and the English tack we got in a trade. I think I'll be hosting a garage sale this summer, though!

I have 1 horse, but I have enough tack to spread over many. It is sad, lol.

Nelson is far better dressed, than I am!

It's so funny, that I can be in a tack store and buy something he needs, without complaining about the price...well, most of the time......but yet, I go to Walmart and complain about the price of jeans, for me! lol. Redonkulous. Something is wrong here! :P

I'm a sucker for good deals on tack. Like I just bought a halter that I don't need for $5! It's a pretty and sturdy halter, too. I do try to save my money for horse emergencies and shows, so I don't buy as much stuff as I would like to. If I wasn't poor I'd have a whole lot more tack. I really want western gear for my dressage horse so we can do english or western. I already have a jumping saddle for when we want to jump. The classifieds here and eBay are my favorite places ever! I spend so much time looking at pretty tack... I like good quality, but affordable, so I'm always hunting for that.

I used to have more tack then horses but that has changed since we got our own acreage ;)
We have 6 horses (only 3 broke to ride yet)

two western saddles,
two english saddles,
two western head stalls
two english head stalls
plus a whole whackload of grooming suplies and about 8 halters with leads.

And sadly I sold my green saddle pad cause hubby didn't want it anymore and now I have a horse that would look so good with it! I will have to stop selling stuff just cause I don't need it right away... never know what comes next, right? :)

I'm counting on that. Even if my tack doesn't fit one horse (although everything I have is the standard/average size), I'm hoping I'll run into one someday that it will fit.
