I also think it depends on the horse. Some horses just dont have a great canter for doing bareback. Most people that have rode my TB gelding bareback HATED it, he has a high wither and a bit of a strange and bouncy canter. Meanwhile I enjoy it and dont mind his wither at all. I just sit a little further back and find it actually makes me have a better seat while cantering bareback as Im more aware of where I am.. wouldnt wanna slam into his huge wither thats for sure!

I too agree that it depends on the horse. Some horses I know are a nightmare to lope on with a saddle ;P.
