I might have an opportunity to do an internship at a barn, and I really want to do it this summer, but I'm not sure if I should. I want to improve my riding and horse experiences... I love doing anything to do with horses, but the thing is I don't plan on going into the horse industry when I get older. I'm majoring in Accounting right now and plan on keeping horses as a hobby.

Soo... should I do it or look for an actual paying job to support my addition? :P

could you do both? Work part time and intern? If not I guess it really depends on your financial status. If you have to have money and support yourself or if you want to support yourself. If you have to support yourself you pass up the internship. If you want to support yourself but your parents (I assume parents) are cool with you taking an internship than take the internship.

Go for a paying gig. Most stable work, even with riding required, can be a "learn as you go" type thing.

I've worked with horses for decades and have met many, many young people who have gotten into working at various type horse barns. Without exception, the ones who were doing an internship were being used as cheap/free labor.

Yes, they may have gotten an opportunity to ride, but had they looked a little harder, a little farther, they could have done the very same things and gotten paid.

What all will the internship involve? Some of them are nothing more than mucking stalls and doing other chores and you could get more out of a paying job.

All I pay my psychiatrist is cost of feed and hay, and he'll listen to me any day!
