I definitely think that it is very easy to misconstrue the written word. As others have said, without the voice inflections it is hard to get the right context. You could even say that there is possibly alot more sarcasm going on than we realize LOL. I like this forum, I enjoy the debates friendly and otherwise. Like I said earlier we can choose to be insulted or not. Also as someone else said you don't have to stay on a thread, nobody has to reply to something they consider to be offensive it is very easy to nip an argument in the bud - just stop replying to that person.

I also work on the principle that you can not change other people, to try to do so is a futile endeavour leading only to frustration (your own!). Some people are aggressive communicators, some will not listen, others can't admit to being wrong but that is the nature of people. You can't change it, all you can do is govern your own behaviour.

And I definitely have seen posts that are simply, rude, uncalled for and not constructive. But sometimes when a debate is polite and mature and nothing rude is being said, some people still take offense to some things. And then I've seen the debates where both people are on the same page, but for some reason are having some sort of misunderstading, miscommunication, and the argument goes 'round and 'round. That's why I think we need to take more consideration both with our reading and writing of our posts.

OH, So true!!

That is why I assumed the risk of using my real name. I don't hide behind a web name. I am willing to be held accountable for everything I say. Anyway, real names are easy enough to get, so fakes are not THAT much protection, anyway.
