Lost shoe....how long is ok?

My boy lost a shoe at some point in the past few days. Noticed it after we got back from a ride- not sure how long it has been gone ( no more than a few days... I did not get to the barn for a few days due to work..) Walked around the pasture for a while looking, but no luck. And the trails have deep leaves and underbrush... so I am guessing if he lost it, its gone... forever...
So I called the farrier today to see about getting him out to put a new shoe on. And he has not called me back. He is already scheduled to come back on TH anyhow for trims... How long is it OK to leave him without a shoe? ( I wont ride him till he has shoes, and the ground in the pasture is soft. )
Like I said, I have a call in... but would waiting 4 days be terrible? ( I know its far from Ideal... but if he doesnt get back to me... First time he has ever tossed a shoe...

Four days shouldn't be an issue if the horse is on soft ground..I'd worry more if the horse were being moved back and forth to a paddock over rocky ground in which case I would just keep them inside as much as possible. He probably has enough hoof growth that losing the shoe won't be an issue since he was so close to the regularly scheduled trim anyway.

If he isn't used to being barefoot he may be a little foot sore even after the new shoe is placed..this should clear pretty quickly..within a day or so if it does occur.

He is barefoot most of the year, in fact has only had shoes now for 6 weeks. I just hope being lopsided does not mess him up... but good to hear that 4 days wont be a big deal!

No, it's not a big deal for a horse to only have one shoe for that length of time. I prefer not to ride them like that unless there is absolutely no other option (but if I need to ride one and he's thrown a shoe, I'll usually yank the other and leave them without shoes altogether). Heck, he could easily go for much longer than that with only one shoe as long as he isn't being worked.
