In the mean time?

Hi, my name is Halie. I've been riding since I was about 5 years old, then since I've made horses my life. I've grown up on a farm and worked at a breeding facility through high school. Work, sleep, school, ride was my life. However about a year ago due to unforeseen circumstances I was given a month to sell 3 horses, and about 12 years worth of tack and horse related supplies. I walked away from everything with $600 to my name and I've been riding twice since then. I had to move from Kentucky to Florida, where the price of being an equestrian is way too high. I can't currently afford to ride nor move home for another 13 months. November of 2014 I will be moving back up north and trying to get my riding career back. However in the mean time, I have no horse..and no related friends. I used to ride at least 3 hours a day on top of barn work and a regular job, now I have none ..It's been really hard. In January I'm starting my prerequisites for veterinary school and I plan on going to Murray State to become a primarily equine related vet. I want to eventually open my own clinic in my home town. But as of now, I have another 13 months to...well I'm not really sure. What should I do? Riding isn't an option right now, so what should I do to keep up to speed with everyone else? I've never had this issue before and I'm not handling it well. Has anyone else had to take an extended leave from riding?

Although getting to ride on the beach was quite a fun experience, that option is no longer open :(

For real though, i am sorry for your troubles. Just consider this a small stepping stone in your life. You have decades of horses in your future. 13 Months is nothing...

Throw all your energy into obtaining your degree so one day (sooner than you think) you will have all the horses you want and will never be put in this position again!

Welcome, I'm so sorry about your troubles...sounds like an awful situation.

This forum will certainly help! I agree with others, focus on school. Throw yourself into it with the ambition that once you're done, you will have a living that not only has to do with horses, but will provide an income to support horses of your own once again!

See if theres any barns around you that you could just volunteer at...muck stalls, whatever. It doesn't have to pay, just so you can have a horsey outlet somewhere, if possible.
