My grandma has a mule named Nester that does that kinda stuff for real, with dogs though not cougars. He was used on a goat farm for a while to keep coyotes away from the baby goats until he kinda went nutty and turned on his goats too...they were going to just shoot him, but we bought him.

Now grandma has him and he has a pasture to himself most of the time until an unwitting stray dog wanders in, then all hell breaks loose. I have seen it happen on more than one occasion, it is a sad sight, but once he manages to catch a dog it is a goner, there is no stopping him. He does just about like the erumor says about Berry without the whole theatrical holding it by the throat and stuff. Nester just grabs it and slings it then stomps it, then kicks it then if it is dead hell bite at it and kick it some more. You cant really get in there to get the dog til its dead and Nester is satisfied on that fact.

It is a nifty story about the real Barry though.

Ahahahaha! Love the dogs sitting in the background watching.

Too bad it's not true, but it was an interesting story anyways.

Wow, what a great story, even if it is fiction!

My pinto pony Patches likes to chase the neighbor dogs out of the pasture if they wander in. He's never hurt them, as far as I am aware.

I feel like I have seen those mule and cougar pictures in a book somewhere...they look very familiar to me.
