My first horse.

I was browsing Craig's list last week looking through the pets section when I came across an ad looking for someone to clean stalls 2 days a week in exchange for leasing a horse. I immediately emailed. The woman, Pat, called me the next day.

I began talking to Pat when I suddenly flashed on a memory. I questioned her, and we quickly discovered that she was the woman who gave me my first riding lessons at age 12 (17 years ago). We reminisced about my time with her, and she asked me if i remembered her daughter. I did. Her daughter used to ride when I did.

Unfortunately, Pat then informed me of something very sad. Her daughter had died in a car crash. The horse she had for lease had been her daughter's horse. Pat was looking for someone to love this horse, Grafitti, as their own. She couldn't bear to part with this amazing horse, but she also couldn't bear to ride him. It hurt too much.

So, I went out to the barn last week. I hadn't seen Pat in 17 years but I remembered her very well. We hugged, and then she introduced me to Graffiti. He is a beautiful, tall, well-behaved Appaloosa. He is 20 years old, and has a hoof problem, but he rides very smoothly. I fell instantly in love. I have been riding him for the past week and I can safely say I have found my first horse! I couldn't ask for a better guy.

Can't imagine why they named him Graffiti.

Handsome boy and so glad you were able to find him and someone you have a connection with.

DraftyAiresMum- I have never had the chance to get so close to a horse. I feel really lucky to finally have the opportunity. Hopefully I don't go overboard with the photos!

There's no such thing as too many photos of your horse. There is, however, such a thing as not enough photos!
