My Mystery

Well, Mystery is my fairly new mare that was given to me because she was starving. She's really making progress, and we have noticed something about her, and I wanted some other opinions. We were told she had been an 12 year old boys roping horse. We have noticed that anytime a child approaches her, she gets a real happy look about her (please don't laugh at me),she really does. She also drops her head immediately so they can pet her. Does anyone else take this tomean that she probably was a childs horse. Our farrier/vet is convinced that she was once a show horse, just by her actions.

As far as my being able to tell when horses look "happy and content", I can also tell just by looking, when one looks depressed.

That could definitely be the case. No way to tell for sure without knowing her full history, however! :)

My mare looooves kids too. She was 'raised with' a group of three kids [as in- according to limited knowledge I have-, there was a little girl who was around 3 when Lacey was born, Lace was a yearling when the first boy was born, and a 4 year old when the second boy was born - the same people had Lacey until she was 23] and I think it shows.
Perhaps she's just a nurturing mare [never had a foal but is that "good mom" type] but the smaller a child is, the more she locks on and loves them. She's very respectful of little kids and will let them do whatever they want to her - including pulling her ears and messing with her face/lips.

Fabio - 13 year old Arabian/Lipizzan gelding

Rest peacefully, Lacey.

I would say she's very laid back and loving.
