My winter project

I took on this little 6 year old mare for the winter (well until my gelding heals from his ligament injury could be longer than this winter). Her owners are busy and she has basically been thrown out with the herd for the past 2 years so she is herd sour and pretty spooky. They rescued her 3 years ago and has supposedly had a few rides put on her so well see how much she remembers once we get that far...I'm still working with her on ground work and pretty much starting from square one to refresh her on everything and seeing what she knows.

She'll be a project but she has made great progress in the week and a half that I have been working with her. I never saw myself as a mare person...but I'm really starting to fall in love with her, she's really coming out of her shell and she has such a lovable, goofy personality.

Thanks! She is already starting to relax more, the first photo is from the first night working with her, the other two are from tonight. She was much more alert the first night but tonight she was even hanging her head about to doze off...she's going to turn into a great little horse, just needs the work and time put into her.

this might be way off base, but the saddle looks like it might be a bit of a poor fit. the angles of the bars do not match her upright and rather narrow shoulders.

I don't plan on riding her in it, just put it on her to see how she was for saddling since she has been unhandled the past couple of years. I'm going to try out a few of my friends saddles and see if any of them fit her better.
