I really wanted to change Nicos name when I got him my best friend talked me out of it. She walked out in the field and called his name and he came running. I always thought he looked like an Ace. (hes my avatar)

My 2 came named already. Willow and Mona.
I don't like Mona's name, but she comes to it when called. Same with Willow.

So in lies the madness, the pursuit of the impossible in the face of the complete assurance that you will fail, and yet still you chase.

The older breeder/ranch folks that we know that have 50+ horses always picked easy to remember names if they named them at all (there always seemed to be a horse named simply 'Filly' or 'Gelding'), so people typically picked a new name when they bought them.
Our very stocky mare was appropriately called 'Dumpling' , renamed to 'Lady'. Our sorrel Paint was originally 'Speck' (for speckled), renamed to 'Cinnamon'. Our laid back, bombproof lead mare was 'Angel' and that name fit well, so we kept it.

On the sixth day, God created the Quarter Horse.
On the seventh day, he Painted the good ones.

Guinness (my avatar) was Rocky-UGH! Guinness b/c of his coloring.
Frankie was Chance-let my hubby name him-oh well-have to let him do something with the horses! So-Frank Thomas(the baseball player-aka "the big hurt" lol) it is.
New show name for Guinness too-I don't believe in the whole bad luck thing.
Guinness=Gotchur Six (means I have your back in Navy SEAL-speak)since he takes care of us wherever he goes. Also in honor of my daughters fiance, who died last year-he was a SEAL. :(
Frankie stayed Second Chance, which fit, since he had a hock deformity as a foal, and the vet wanted to put him down. Obviously, 21 yrs later, it still works!

xdrybones.. thank you very much,, He has such a can do attitude.. I only trail ride now, used to show quite a bit growing up though..western pleasure, horsemanship and poles and barrels. I would love to try Goose on barrels or even over some jumps. he is great going over trees fell across the path !!!!! and he would look so pretty dressed up all fancy like the jumpers do...

Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction.!!!

My gelding was known as "The grey gelding" at the sale barn, so I named him something better and more friendly "Romeo".
My mare was named Sadie, but before I bought her there was a friend of my step sister that had died named Sadie, so I decided Demi instead.

RIP Minnie, 1981-January 15, 2010
RIP Maggie Mae I miss you
