Near wreck while farm sitting

I'm farm sitting for a fellow that I kind of know. He only has seven horses at his place because it's off season here.

Got a call from the guy while I was still at work. He's out of state and got a call that his horses were at a neighbor's house.

I raced out here and could not see a horse anywhere. Dang. Was afraid they were on the highway and was jogging back across pastures to get my car as a couple trucks stopped and waved me over. The horses had just been put in a paddock by a couple fellows that live up the road.

They were racing around in there acting like a bunch of sillies. But when I walked out and whistled they all settled down.

Another neighbor kid and the two others helped me lead the seven home. We found a gate opened that had been double chained. The house that the gate was near had some visitors today. I have to wonder if the women went through the gate to pet the horses.

I went around a wired shut every gate, on top of the chains and clipping. That's how ranch gals spend a Friday night! Sometimes.

Wow.. I'm glad none of the horses were injured. That could've turned out a lot worse.

Those kinds of things always happen when you're horse sitting, I swear. Glad things worked out okay.

Oh man, that's stressful!! I'm glad they're all okay though.. now go enjoy some wine (or if you're like me, some whiskey or scotch will be cool too) haha! Days later, it can help with the nerves lol!

Isn't that always the way when you do someone a good turn?

I was asked by a friend to take care of her horse and donkeys for the weekend. Early Sunday morning I got a call to say her beasties were running amok in the village. My friend's ex-boyfriend had lent her some gates for her pasture and, in a fit of spite, he decided to reclaim them overnight. I had to apologize to a number of irate villagers who's gardens had been trashed and then rustle up some gates!

A catalogue of similar experiences means that my heart sinks each time I'm asked a favour of because I am only too familiar with the drill .
