New baby, lots of questions

My uncle was recently given a colt (soon to be gelding). He turns a year old this month, and is extremely smart and quiet. He's very willing and is a pleasure to work with.

The problem is, he's got a nasty case of rain rot, which is something I've never had to deal with before. What I'm doing right now is removing the skin and hair that are falling off and spraying him with a Listerine solution once a day. I have also heard that a bath with dandruff or teatree shampoo will help him, so when the weather is a little better he will get that too. Is there anything else I can do for him?

Also, what color would you all him and what is your overall opinion of him? I was leaning towards cremello, but I have no idea of the difference between cremello and perlino and the like.

Without further ado, here's Casper:

Go back to your photobucket account and run your cursor over the gear at the top right of the picture. It will give you a drop down list, click "get links", then click the bottom option "IMG codes" it should say copied in the field. Come back here and right click over screen then click paste. I hope this helps.

I was going to try and fix the links for you, but without a complete address of your pb account it can't be done now.

Aww, poor guy. It looks like he's had a rough start It's great that your uncle has taken him in!

I'm leaning towards cremello- usually perlinos have a slightly darker/orangey hue to the mane and tail. Of course, he could also be smoky cream. It's hard to tell in his current condition! I'm pretty confident that he's a double cream dilute of some flavor, though!

I don't have any advice for the treatment of the rain rot, but it's usually a big indicator that the horse is missing something nutritionally. If he's not already been put on a ration balancer, vitamin/mineral, or fortified grain (ideally something designed for weanlings/yearlings) then I'd look into doing so ASAP.
