Covid has been quite the whirlwind. I finally pushed myself to list my gelding whom I did most of the training but on the barrel pattern Just could not click with. He went to an amazing high school rodeo girl and I am ecstatic to see how they excel!
I had planned to wait awhile to purchase another however this mare popped up from the same seller of my last gelding and things just fell into place. Due to covid my work has placed travel restrictions And I am not permitted to go the 7hrs to pick her up so she’ll be here beginning of October! Until then I’ll be preparing her stall at our new property and spending time with my 2yr old filly.

A little about this girl she’s a 5yr old by a mr sun o Lena son and out of a chic in time mare. She’s green but willing and I’m incredibly excited to get my hands on her.
Also a picture of my famous gold coin Grandaughter

I actually tried to find her breeders brand info but they made it kind of hard. My other filly has numbers in her buttcheeks for sure and dam. I assume this filly is similar, ranch brand then year born, sire and dam but I’m not positive. I haven’t reached out to them yet. She does have more brands than i would ever personally put on a horse as these had to have been done young

It always seems the week of big things sleep is nowhere to be found. I slept maybe 3 hours last night worrying about the pick up date as we’d had some conflicts.
She finally got back with me and we are back on track but now for Thursday afternoon!
It’s a full day early and my job is allowing me to come in earlier that morning so i don’t lose more hours.
Still lots to be done before Thursday. I need to have my boyfriend weld the new gate hinges on her stall door, purchase another hay net, put new shavings in the trailer and buy a new lead rope as my filly has chewed up my spare 🙄.

I also acquired a gaited gelding i helped start a few years ago for a restart to prep to sell by my farrier AND my trainer ha some legging up her semi retired barrel mare while her stall is being used for her own trainee.

Busy busy trying not to focus on my job possibly imploding but instead opening new doors and avenues!

And she’s here! My boyfriend and I drove out and picked her up yesterday. It was a looong day with me still going into work at 5am, heading to pick her up at 2pm and not getting home until almost midnight 😳. Poor girl had a lot of hauling hours yesterday.
Today she just got to decompress, got a bath, mane and tail braids done and some liniment for those muscles.
She is INCREDIBLY sweet, stood still at the hitching post after her bath and waited for me to finish bathing, braiding and riding the others.
Awesome manners so far. I can not wait to start really working with her this weekend! She has had the last month off and her feet need to be done(scheduled for next week) so we will start back slowly but anyway, here is miss Shady or Cheeto depending on who you ask 😊😊

Update on miss Shady.
She is still sweet but also quite the bluffer. She is currently just building confidence with the mounting and moving off as this is where she wants to get humpy. I ended up switching to a different saddle on her as well.
We also found that this is probably largely because poor girl was a HOT mess, she was out in her poll, neck, shoulders, 4ribs, hips and sciatic 😳😳
So! She’s currently getting another week off of just massage, stretching and redlight.
However here are some new pictures of her ❤

Oh absolutely. I completely believe that I can not ask a horse to perform for me if they hurt or lack in confidence. Seeing as she is my up coming barrel prospect I need to properly build that confidence and get her pain free! 🙂

Little update no improvements generally speaking, however with stretching she is loosening up in the front end so far.

That being said, I have scheduled her a vet appointment. I want to find out what is going on as to why this has supposedly just started since coming to me. 🙄 I still don’t believe this is a brand new vice that began the first time I saddled her but that’s neither here nor there at this point.

Chiro and energy work appointment today. This poor mare was a mental and physical mess. As soon as my chiro started working on her, this mare started to turn to putty.
by the end the energy work about put her to sleep.
I did not give any info on her behavioral issues or her issues under saddle but my chiro called every single one.
She has a bad muscle spasm that I will be working on the next 2weeks. Around that time she will have her vet appointment and hopefully we can get her zeroed out.
We also started gastro elm to see if we can’t get her gut happier in case she does need ulcer treatment.

Update on the Shady girl.
Yesterday we drove out to the vet to essentially find she is sound. Going over everything the chiropractor found, he rechecked her back, flexed her, we lunged her at a trot on gravel, checked for any foot pain and could find nothing that would lead to pain being the reason for the behavior. He is more inclined to think it started that way and she got away with it and now it will just be training. However we are going to do a bute trial and see if there is any difference in the way she acts under saddle, if so we will make another appointment to troubleshoot. But if not then we know she’s just going to be a project to realize there’s no more pain and no more getting away with being naughty.
It wasn’t all for nothing however my young filly has had what we thought were episodes of tying up however her bloodwork did not show that to be true. She stumped the vet being her levels were all totally normal for one who has had two episodes. She also got into a fight with another gelding, nicked a vein or vessel, we had gotten the bleeding under control and she wasn’t lame so we waited for this visit. She ended up having some tendon sheath fluid so the vet cleaned that wound up and she will be rewrapped every 2-3
days and on smzs to ward off any infection. Having said that she was 100% sound.
Both girls got HIGH compliments for how easy they were to handle and he expects both to be awesome performance prospects in the future.
So here’s go hoping we can get Shady back on track and continued smooth healing for my other girl ❤

This girl has been back to work for the most part. Unfortunately I had a lot of overtime so she had 3 days in saddle and then 3 days off so until my schedule levels back out we are sticking to ground work. She’s slowly becoming more and more personable, looking to me for confidence and starting to relax quicker during work. We are hoping that after the new year my trainer will have the time to take her for more serious work.

Another update!
This girl is coming out of her shell daily, still a nervy mare but getting better. She is also becoming more and more people oriented.

Yesterday,I took home a horse I had in for miles which is right around the corner from my trainer. So I helped ride some horses for her and brought my girls along. Shady was far better then I expected. The pattern was set up so we did some trotting through and I have never felt her more focused and “relaxed”. Thankfully this means she has not been blown up on the pattern but that I just need to focus on getting her comfortable in dry work.
Picture for tax as my 2 yr old is quickly making her look small 😬😬

Well it’s been a couple weeks since I’ve shared about this girl.
I placed her on phytosana cbd which helped a previous horse be able to absorb and focus on tasks. It has done the same for her, I ran out of grain for two days(working doubles I wasn’t able to go restock) within those two missed doses she reverted back, we had an extremely rough Tuesday and I didn’t even get on her she was such a wreak.
Igot her back on her normal grain and supplements and by today she was back to trying to learn.
She tests me every moment but today we had our best ride yet. picture of her morning yoga 😍❤

11days and so many changes. I committed to riding daily(no more excuses) since my boyfriend and I were placed on quarantine. This seemed to do wonders for both of my girls. Shady has made big positive moves on her mounting issues/fears, we are more consistently using our hind end, lead departures are so much smoother and it seems like by the end of feb we will be ready to get back to the pattern. I still am not really sure if she’ll be a longer term mount for me but I am starting to enjoy seeing her blossom in hands that allow her to learn and grow!

Then there’s my princess pony who I opted to do 30 days on and then give her a 60-90 day break as she won’t officially be 3 until June. I finally grew a pair and went out on a solo trail ride with her so we can get more outside miles instead of arena work.

Not much has changed since my last post. I have taught her how to step over to me instead of me approaching her to mount. We are also focusing on being more independent and responsible for herself, while also gaining confidence at the lope. She is set to head to my trainer in April when my trainer takes her baby back that I’ve lightly started for her.
Also got my first ambassadorship with one of the products that has helped her and originally helped my last gelding! Phytosana cbd seriously has made such a HUGE difference in this mare

my buckskin is officially on her break. She had a chiro visit and has last her two front teeth within a week of each other. This was already planned but everything else happened perfectly. So for now all she will be doing is trailer sessions because she has opted for being a digger in the trailer 🙄.

Shady is gearing up to go to my trainers in about two weeks! In this time she will hopefully be ready to reintroduce the barrel pattern to, now that we’ve given her the tools she lacked before. Our routine has shown to be working for her and she seems to be making progress every day. Five months into this with her and i can’t say i haven’t struggled with her. It isn’t always good days, I have days i filly think of listing her for sale to purchase something that isn’t an on going project. However I’m not one to give up and she is showing progress. So here we are, one day at a time

We are still working daily to build her confidence. Have found she prefers direct short sessions with one goal.
the weather has been atrocious(windy desert =sand in all the wrong places lol) and I’ve been covering overtime events whenever possible. She is still set to go to my trainer but she wasn’t quite ready yet, we swap training so we try to work around each others schedules.
I don’t know that we will make it back on the pattern this season but hopefully by the end of the year.

🙌🏼!!!POSITIVE UPDATE!!! 🙌🏼

Shady has come leaps and bounds since I finally came to the understanding that we needed to adjust and focus on one thing per ride. She has really started to connect the dots, lower her head on her own accord and her trot has improved immensely!
She officially goes to my trainer at the end of the week 🥰🥰
The above phot is the day i started to notice a change and these photos are from about 4 days later
