a new purpose for an old horse

Very dear friends of mine have 3 retired broodmare. All 3 were shown in halter as yearlings, 2 & 3 year olds, trained for riding, & then became broodmares.
Glitter was their first horse, bought as a 6 month old & is now 16 years old. She has not been ridden in at least 6 years. With my friends blessing, my 9 year old son & I decided to see if we could bring Glitter back into work. We have spent most of the summer doing ground work & lunge line work in the round pen. Glitter acted as she's never had a day off. Everything I've asked of her she has done. Has a perfect whoa, on or off the lunge line. I've gotten on her a few times already & she was a perfect lady. Yesterday we decided that it was my son's turn. She took such good care of my boy! He is so proud of the horse he "helped train". A few more weeks of work & my friends feel like it will be time for her grandkids to come ride with my help. I'm so blessed to have them in my life & feeling so proud that I was able to bring a new purpose to a well loved old horse

Ha - 16 isn't old at all. My mare is 16 and is teaching me so much...and vice versa. If anything she's in her prime and has a lot of years left in her for riding yet. My sister's gelding is 23 and still goes out on the trail regularly. Beautiful pictures of your mare and son, thank you for sharing them!

Good job!
I'm with others here...16 is just nicely mature.
