New Rescue Recovering From Gunshot with Foal

Hello all!

I've been a "lurker" for a little while now reading and researching posts as my property is built and I prepare to have horses at home with me on 8 acres. I'm a passionate animal welfare advocate with my dogs and I recently became aware of a mare who was rescued with 36 other horses from a cruelty case. This mare was suffering a gunshot to her shoulder. The Houston SPCA rescued her and performed surgery and were able to remove the bullet and all bone fragments and expect her to make a 100% recovery with no repercussions! Two days ago at the SPCA she gave birth to a beautiful foal who was born on my grandmother's birthday.

When I met them, I knew they were supposed to be my horses. I haven't personally raised a foal before, but, I will be working closely with my natural horsemanship trainer. I am will keep them both for a few months at another barn who works with my trainer that has an almost 1year old and another mare so I know we will be in great company for this exciting time before moving them to our new home.

I look forward to now participating in the forums regularly and becoming an official part of the community. I wanted to share photos of the two that I took today at the SPCA when I finalized the papers.

We named the mare Lucille (Lucy) after my grandmother and the foal Dolly.

Just wanted to introduce us. Thanks!
