I know how you feel. I've gotten several snide comments about my Arab. She was virtually untouchable when I got her, had no clue how to lead, and everything made her upset, because for at least 6 months she'd never even been out of her stall. She has come a LONG way in almost a year, though as an Arabian, she's always going to be a little bit of a hothead, but the place I had her before, was a person's backyard, and she taught beginner lessons, and she would always throw a fit about making sure that NO ONE was around when I went to take my horse out, just because she could POSSIBLY get loose, or something which she never did. And I like that she's got a mind of her own, and her own personality.
The latest comment I got was today, I was bathing her, and someone came up to ask me questions, and was all like "Dude, you've had her for almost a year, she's 5, and you've NEVER trotted her under saddle", and its just like dude, just cause she's 5 doesn't mean that she needs to be doing second level dressage or jumping 3' fences or something, and as I couldn't even touch her a year ago, I think she's come a long way to calmly be walking around the arena with me on her back. I too get annoyed at all the snipey comments people have about me and her, and I think venting a bit in an appropriate place, such as on HF, minus names of course is a much better way to deal with it, then keep it all inside until one day she says one too many things, and you end up blowing your top off at her. So please vent away. As a fellow Arabian owner, I'd love to hear the things you've had to deal with as well.

That sounds like fun! And I hope he gets better! Neither of my beasties are trained much.. Trained to saddle and to be ridden (W/T) Abby wont canter and Ducky just runs like hell... But I plan on doing dressage and some jumping with Abby (STB who used to race) And Ducky with barrels and WP (QH who never did much in his life LOL)

Horses are scared of two things... Things that move and things that don't.

Going to have to disagree with you. Halters are not weak and useless. If you cannot control a horse with a halter and lead - one of the two (handler or horse) needs to go back to basic manners. Respect at the end of a lead rope is learned while the foal is still with their dam.
