Opinions please

Please help me with a little poll. I have created this design to possibly go on a t-shirt for a non-profit Mustang advocacy group(Jicarilla Mustang Heritage Alliance) Simply Click "like" if you would be willing to wear this on the back of your shirt. - Thanks

It's nice, but I worry all that shading & background will be difficult for the printer to reproduce (at least affordably, anyway.)

I have to agree. this is a lovely drawing, but a more graphic (clean edges, strong dark/light values) image will read much better.

Thanks for the input. The plan is to go to the printer next week, I will discuss the value issues with him in person, he may be able to do some digital image editing to help. I tried the image out at a design-your-own tshirt web site, and it looked great printed like a photograph on the back of a black t with the slogan : "Nature breeds the best, adopt a mustang!" in white above the pic.

I hope the local printer can make it look like what I had designed on the web, if not, I'll have to go back to the drawing board, literally. Right now I wanted to see if this sort of image would have public appeal to the horse community.

It's a nice drawing, but I do think that if you could redo it in line-drawing style - simple, flowing outlines without the shading - it'd make a better tshirt graphic. It looks great displayed on a computer screen, but a tshirt is not a computer screen. A tshirt goes over a 3-dimensional form, stretches and moves, and is usually viewed from a greater distance than a computer display! That being so, I think there's a good chance that an image that's all soft greys and subtle shading will basically look like a muddy grey smudge when worn and viewed in normal tshirt conditions. On the other hand, the same image as a simple line-drawing type graphic will be much simpler, contrasty and easy to "read" at a distance, and will last better through dirt, stains and getting washed a lot.

Having designed a few tshirts for groups myself, these days I VERY strongly tend to the "keep it as simple and stark as possible" approach. Here's a couple of examples of the sort of thing I mean, pulled off a google images search. Compare this, which is an image with detail and shading, maybe a bit like yours:

And then consider this simpler, starker graphic:

See what I mean? Which one is easier to "read" at a distance, and makes a more striking tshirt? I think I'd pick the second one any time, for myself.

Below is a link to the t-shirt design as it stands right now. I see what you all are saying about the image not being clear enough, I will most likely be altering the original drawing a bit to make the horse stand out more. The front will have a smaller more graphic image with JMHA's logo.

The JMHA's goal was to show the gentle side of these horses, since so many people believe that it is hard to tame a mustang. It is a bit difficult to convey that message with a simple graphic line drawing, not to mention I'm not very good at that sort of art work.

Why not create a true Poll so you can get a feel of the amount of people that would not wear it. I would hate to see you invest a lot of $$ and not really know the true results.

so, will it have that kind of white polymer background? I hate that on a tee shirt becuase it makes you hot and it warps if you wash/dry too hot.

you could overlay that drawing with a velum and trace it in ink and make really clean lines, nix the background, other than a few lines to suggest he is standing on something, or a blade of grass or two.

The drawing is sweet and should give you satisfaction, whatever you use it for.
