Ownership Transfer, previous owner in hospital

Does anyone know the process for getting an ownership transfer when the old owner is in the hospital or deceased?
I think they knew it was coming and asked me if I wanted to take a horse I had always wanted.
He is registered through the jockey club.
Is there any way to get the ownership transferred in this case?

If the owner is nearing the end, it's possible that someone in the family has a durable power of attorney for the owner. They can sign a bill of sale for the horse, transferring it to you. I believe that you would also need a copy of the power of attorney to validate the transfer. If the owner has passed, whoever is the appointed administrator of the estate would sign the paperwork. Speak to the person that asked you to take the horse. Get something in writing from them. Save any texts or emails you may have regarding them offering you the horse.

Back when I had a TB, you did not need any of that. The new owner signed the back of the papers. The old owner only handed the certificate over. You COULD transfer it at the JC, but it was not necessary.
