Preakness Stakes 2013

Wow...I can't believe it. I did not expect Oxbow at all. I thought it would be between Departing and Orb towards the end and Orb would win. Orb really fell behind towards the end. Shocked. No Triple Crown this year...

That was pretty amazing. Pretty much wire to wire. Would like to have another triple crown winner one of these days, but the races this year, have both been great anyway!

That was pretty impressive though. Straight to the lead and held it

Never count out a horse trained by Lukas ;) That was a very impressive race, a wire 2 wire win in that caliber of a race is not easy..... Orb is a nice horse, but i believe the results would have been different had the weather been different. I am sad there will be no Triple Crown winner yet again.....

I'm not really upset, I am bumbed out there will be no Triple Crown winner though. I like Lukas and I really like Gary Stevens. It was incredible how he kept the lead the entire time, he didn't have a speck of dirt on him at the wire!

I was really hoping for Orb...I don't think we'll ever see a Triple Crown Winner ever again.

But there may be hope for next year.

I was little upset but not nearly as upset as I was when Smarty Jones lost the belmont or Real Quiet losing the Belmont by a nose. Plus i really liked the Janeys and Phipps for their deep roots in the racing world.

I really was not expecting anything from Departing. His last win was a grade lll...so not nearly as tough as the Preakness. Plus he raced against the horses in the derby before and lost.

I wasn't all too surprise with Oxbow winning, the way he held up in the Derby and placing decent after being with the front pack that was running a killer speed for the first part of the derby. He did well in the derby and today was just his day.

Just crazy how great Orb came out of Derby and not even placing in the Preakness. But hey that's horse racing. Makes you appreciate more of what those 11 triple crown winners did.

Happy for Gary Stevens! Was glad when he came back to racing in january. Glad to see him back at the top!

On to Belmont now!

I didn't expect orb to do much good at the Preakness. It's hard to do any good on rail. I actually had oxbow picked out for the derby, and he actually had the best spot in the gates. Sorry Orb, congratulations oxbow. Maybe next year!

I'm starting to doubt there will ever be another Triple Crown winner. If you look at the all the horses that one the Triple Crown from the first to the last you can see how it's become more and more rare. If you go to either the Preakness or Kentucky Derby website there is a list of all the Kentucky Derby or Preakness winners and of those winners the ones who one the Triple Crown are marked. If you lookin the early 1900's horses were winning the Triple Crown every couple years, then you can see it start slowly spacing out and more and more years getting between each Triple Crown winner. Now it's been like 35 years since the last winner. Makes you wonder....is it bloodlines and genes? Who knows....it's weird.
