Price of hay and other thoughts.

Well, we ended up buying our hay from TSC.
First impressions is that is looks as good if not better than what we got late last year. Nice heavy green bales. They have gone through 3 semi loads of this stuff since November.

I have been apprehensive about buying from TSC because they wanted 9.45 a bale. Well, after a 5% discount (if you buy more than 20 bales) and additional coupons we had. They ended up costing just over 7.50 a bale. Yeah I know, we used coupons for hay!

The kids are happy, the horses are happy and I feel like we are good to go now until after first cutting.

Are y'all having a drought? $7.50 is kind of a hefty price to pay per bale, even in the winter.

Worst drought in years. We are in Michigan. Hay had been selling between 10 and 13 a bale. We had NEVER paid over 3.50, ever.
Lots of folks selling there animals because they cant afford to feed them.

Praying for a better 2013 to be sure!

Unfortunately the price of hay is bad this time of the year up until the first cutting then it starts to come back down again. (Or at least around here)

Supply and demand.

Ugh, sorry to all of you in the drought stricken areas.

I pay $3.50 a bale, and have for the last several years. I can remember (said in my creaky old lady voice) when hay was $1.50 a bale. And they were BIG bales too, not them little un's we're gettin' now! You **** kids get off my lawn!!!!

Holy wow! I pay 25 bucks for a round bale, and not the moldy, falling apart cruddy ones, too. I buy TnA for my ponies at 2.50 a bale for the small bales. I'd keel over if I was paying near that much. :/

We are all hoping that we get a better hay growing season this year and things get back to normal. Like I mentioned above, this price is due to the drought we had last summer.

<~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ is praying f.i.l. will be making square bales for us again this year! Wow, what a help that was. All we had to do was pick it up off the pasture and store it. Last year we were paying 150-180 a ton. Not sure what its going for this year, but if I type in hay on craigslist there are more people looking for it than selling.
