R.I.P Sass...

One of my instructors lesson horses (Sass) got killed today. She touched the electric fence and freaked and flipped over, hit the fence, and the pole impaled her... Poor girl... She was in her 20s though and had a good life. But she was great to ride, put her heart into everything.

Oh my! I'm so sorry, my condolences to all that knew her.

Was it instant?

Well it was supposed to be one of those rubber or plastic safety poles. Safe my ***... So after the lesson I helped cut tennis balls and we're gonna put tennis balls on the tips of the poles in hopes that'll be safer.

And thanks guys, my instructor was very upset.. As for me too, and everyone else who knew Sass.

Yikes. If those posts were advertised as safety poles you might want to consider writing a letter to the maker.

I heard that a trick to help tennis balls stay on poles is to fill them with that expanding spray foam insulation stuff before sticking them on the poles. Works like a glue, but you have to be sure none is dripped out (or if it is see that it gets cleaned) so the horses can't injest any.

I'm so sorry again to all who are hurting from this loss, so very sad.

Yeah I'll mention the foam stuff to them next time I go. And yeah a letter to the makers would be a good idea. And thanks again.
