I'm thinking of this one in navy for cross country until I get my new skull cap. Ovation® Protégé Helmet - Ovation Riding

Thanks for the tips! Verona, I didn't realize that their free shipping counted for things like helmets. I'll have to check them out!

Eta: just checked the website for the tack store near me and my options under $200 are aegia ussepa, ovation schooler, and tipperary sportage. Lame selection to say the least!

I'll be another vote for the ovation schooling helmet! I bought mine back in early 2010 when my troxel developed a mysterious crack in it, and it was the only not $200 helmet in the only local tack store. It was love at first sight!

The Ovation Schooler is a great option! Try one on, I promise you'll love it!

Try them, if they are comfortable then likely go with it!

I have a Troxel, either Spirit or Sport helmet, and maybe it's just me but it makes my head look huge! Maybe it's just not a good fit but it's really hard to tell as I forget about it seconds after having it on. I really don't like the look at all and would gladly pay more to not look like my head is twice it's normal size.

Well, I bought an Ovation schooler. They had one left in my size and it was less than $60. It fit well and the lady helping me was pleased with the fit on me. I still don't like the mushroom it gave me, but I can't afford the nicer ones nor are they really worth it for me to buy in the long run. Everyone was happy that I was wearing one for my lesson, and that's what matters.

Thanks for all the tips!
