Talking Remember when.....

Hey Everyone! I thought it would be fun to ask everyone "What was the best time you have ever had with your horse" You can tell a whole story, who/what/when/where/why/how!

Horses aren't just a pleasure, they are an escape from all evils of mankind.

Fun thread :)

When me and Jester were pole bending at a Gymkhana. I turne dhim around and he shot off like a bullet. We weaved perfectly, no screw ups with lots of tight turns. But on the way home he spotted a friend of mine giving her horse some grain, and he swerved to the right and just NAILED the last pole on the straight-away. I mean, really? Who does that??

I was absolutely furious with him for doing that, but he just looked at me with his puppy dog eyes and I melted. It was brilliant. Unfortunately I ahd to give him grain after that since he went through all that trouble just tog et at some :)

Pssh.I didn't pick up the wrong lead
It's called a counter canter...
...A very advanced maneuver.

Oooh, what a good topic! I can't wait to read everyone's!

Mine was a time when I went on a trail ride with my friends. We got up really early, and I had to make three trips of trailering the horses to a river near by, the "C & O Canal". It ran ajacent to a set of railroad tracks as well as the Potomac river.

I brought my two horses, my friend brought her two, and another friend brought her one, so it was a day of friends trail riding.

At first we were just riding through the woods, jumping logs and trotting along the bank, but then we got to a really deep part of the river that had a giant boulder sitting in it, and a rope swing above it.

We weren't wearing swimsuits, but we decided to go into it with our horses, so we stripped them of their tack, yanked off our tall boots and rode them in. We took all of them through the deep water, but my horse Vintage was the only one that really seemed to love it. We'd get on her, two on her back, and one grabbing her tail, and she'd swim through the deep water. Sitting on a horse swimming through deep water is the most incredible experience I've had.

Once we'd done that a bunch, we left the horses on the beach, and played on the rope swing. We kept Vintage in the water about knee high, and she napped while we climbed all over her, jumped off her back and stood on her back. The other horses napped on shore, including my friend's high strung ex racehorse.

It was the most incredible experience. We went back two more times, but it was never as amazing as the first time, when the weather was perfect, and we had all the time in the world.

So that's mine! I'm excited to hear everyone elses!

We were playing mini games on our horses in pony club, and my horse was all new to this pony club thing.
We had to crush an egg and race back to the finish line, I didn't expect him to do this, but we won all of the levels and he became champion egg smasher that year haha.
The same day we did a jump off, and my horse had a bad experience jumping so he was always scared of the jumps, but he followed a friend over the jump (which was just ground poles) and they kept raising it, so we decided to go on our own and managed to jump 2', yes I know it's small, but for him its a HUGE deal!

The best ride I ever had on my beloved, once-in-a-lifetime gelding was also our last, although I didn't know it at the time.

A group of us had decided to do a Poker Ride in November 2006. The day was chilly and blustery, which made it perfect for a long ride in the woods. I was also with 3 of my best friends, which made it even better.

Conny was perfect that day. Even the black cows (normally good for a spook) out in one of the fields we rode through just got an ear cock and a good, long look. He even took the tarp waving on a branch with no more than a sideways glance.

Cantering up and down hills, through water, and taking each obstacle like a champ. I was having a glorious time.

One of the drag riders approached me near the end of the ride and said, "That's an Arabian, right? I have to tell you, that's the sanest, most level headed horse I've ever seen."

That totally made my day, because he was on a QH and had been heard saying at the start of the ride, "Look, Arabians. Bet there's going to be some fireworks!"

I'll never forget that ride. It will always stand out in my mind as one of the best times I've ever had, even though I had plenty of wonderful rides on that horse the 21 years I had him.

I'm glad I have that memory, because 8 months later that little bay gelding was put to rest. I will miss him forever, but that last ride we had will always gleam in my mind like a beacon.

My best ride on Ice was also the last good ride I've had on him. It started out pretty normally, we were just going around the arena, but it ended up being fantastic--we were doing lots of trotting with a little bit of pole bending. He was on a loose rein, we were working nicely together and the longer we worked the better we got. After that we had some rides, but they weren't as nice or as long. While we're working with him, that's what I aim to get back to.

I haven't ridden Lillie yet but my best experience with her just happened the other day. I'd spent all last summer putting ground work on her. I'd seen a payoff (of all the hard work) when the farrier did her feet and gave me a discount because she was so well behaved. The other day, I saw why good ground work is so important.

We were trying to get our cow/calf pairs to the south pasture. In order to do that, they must go through the pen that we have Lillie and Lyric in. So I tied Lillie and Lyric up off to the side thinking I had them out of the way. But the calves had other ideas. They got disoriented when we moved them and then ended up in the corner with Lillie and Lyric. Both of my horses stood stock still as those little calves weaved under them and around them. My fiance was astounded that neither horse tried to kick the calves.

I was soo super proud of my horses.
