Remember When?

Would love to hear your childhood stories, from those of you, who used to ride when you were younger. What did you used to do with your ponies, horses? Me personally... I rode my neighbors pony and we would go all over anywhere. Race in the fields, make trails in the woods, cross from one city to the next. Make forts. Sounds silly, but always makes me smile. At least I have that memory that most people dont have. Wondering if anyone else used to do this. Thought this would be a fun thread. Of course, for me now, I dont do this. Cant in most areas. Trespassing means something now!! :) How about the spills we took that would put us in the hospital now. Had many of those!!!!

I remembe when I had my first pony(well 3 of them actually). When we bought her she was actually in foal which the ex-owners didn't tell us. Was pleasantly surprised when one morning we were welcomed by a cantering little ******. A gorgeous little black foal(just like mommy). I remember playing indians out in the pasture by this big tree with my pony as my horse. I had an amazing life growing up.

Ride Canada's National Horse-the Canadian Horse. One of the most athletic and versatile horse breeds!

We had our own ponies, I remember doing silly things like making my little sister lie under a jump and jumping her, riding to my friends places through private property including a huge quarry that was definitely not safe with huge cliffs and quick sand patches, creating crazy obstacle courses to take the ponies through etc

Ahh love those old memories

Mine was, I was about 4 (Im 15 now), and I saw my first horse, a little bay gelding, and I fell in love and spent the whole day "playing horsie". And he was such a gentleman, and took good care of me :)

Every girl wants their own LOVE STORY, I found mine... :)

When I was a kid I had to pretend my bike was a horse, because we didn't live in an area (or have the money, but I didn't realize how broke we were growing up) where we could have a horse.

When I was ten I got to go on my first trail ride, and after that I saved all my money to pay for trail rides whenever I could convince my parents to let me go on one.

We used to have a nice group of young girls my age when I started riding and we'd have so much fun on Saturdays.

I miss racing up hills with them. Sometimes one of us would have the horse that wanted to to run a little too much, so we'd let that horse and rider run up the hill first then the rest of us would race each other to the top.

We'd wander around the property on our horses with our eyes closed and then open them and see where we'd wound up. (I always cheated and peeked xD)

When the BO was out teaching lessons, we'd climb in the rafters (once we made a hammock hung entirely made of baling twine) and ride the pony around tackless in his stall.

We also milked a mare and tried to give the milk to the barn cat.

I had the very best horse growing up. I had to save every penny I got (literally) and steal sandwiches out of the lunch line and put my lunch money away so I could afford him. 2 weeks after I got him home he tripped and fell in the pasture and blew out both front tendons. I spent the next 8 weeks in his stall with him...reading him books and holding his face. I used to take a 5 gallon bucket and rip out 5 gallons worth of grass just so he could have some pasture. We became the best of friends. He travelled with me all over the country. A better trained horse doesn't exist. He tolerated us all! When he was 32, I donated him to a little boy with special needs. He lived to the ripe old age of 38 and lived every second of those 38 years. It has taken me 10 years to get back to riding...he would be soooo dissapointed! lol

It seems our most blissful and worry free days with horses were the ones when we were blissfully unaware of the consequences anything that we did might bring.
Hey that's a good quote! I made it up myself! :)
