Safechoice Feed ALERT!!

Last week, between my daughter and myself, we purchased 6 bags of Nutrena Safe Choice from 2 different TSC's, and 4 out of 6 were full of mold. So, please watch your Nutrena products, and it seems as if this is not an isolated incidents, as my daughter found other complaints.

It may be the store it comes from too. I have had the same problem with moldy safe-choice. I purchase a variety of different animal feeds and I have noticed that all of the ones bought from a tsc (there are three tsc stores here for me to choose from) will have mold on/in the bags on ocassion whereas the same type feed from the more out of the way co ops and mom and pop type feed stores never has an issue. Now I only go to a tsc if I am in a bind and cannot make it anywhere else. This is a good reminder to always check your feed bags!

Considering how bad Nutrena and Purina dog and cat food are for your animals, I naturally don't trust their horse feed to be any better and therefore don't use it. I know many people use their feeds and swear by them, but I don't trust the company enough.

I've had all kinds of Nutrena feeds with mold. Life Design, Safe Choice, Triumph.
Needless to say I was not amused. Not all from TSC either. Heat here is an issue, but certainly not humidity. And I've never had any mold in Purina feeds.
The scary part is that in some areas, Triple Crown feeds are manufactured by Nutrena.....

Eeesh...makes me glad that I pour all of my bags of feed into bins before I start rationing them out to feed my filly with. I'll be keeping an extra eye out for mold now though, as I feed a Nutrena Product. I've had no trouble with their feed at all YET, but that doesn't mean I wont... I buy it from TSC too. Thank you!

The only grain that I can honestly say I have bought for an extended period of time and NEVER found any mold in was Purina's Ultium. Other than that I have found mold in a variety of feeds from a variety of places. Sadly, we do no have a heat nor humidity problem.

My goodness, and we went with Safe Choice because of all the good reviews, some also from here.

To me safechoice is either a love it or hate it feed. I know people that swear by it but I wouldnt feed it to my guys for anything. Either your horse does good on it or they dont.

We fed Safe Choice for years, never had a bad bag, and our mares were all healthy. We only stopped when we moved close to a mill that mixes a very nice feed that is less expensive (and doesn't sit around in a warehouse).

I have fed Nutrena LifeDesign Senior for almost two years. I purchase from different TSCs in my area, and have never had a problem.
