I mounted Ollie all by myself for the first time :) I know it sounds kinda silly, but he used to sidle away from the mounting block so someone would have to hold him so that I cold get on. But nope, yesterday he stood like an angel, I was so happy!

Successfully did my first beginner novice horse trial on Sunday after being stuck at elementary for 2 years. Huge accomplishment for me and horsey, but family is looking at my like I have lobsters coming out of my head.

You just have to see your don't have to like it.

A few days ago, I sent Henny into his paddock ahead of me(I always walk him through, turn him around, and back him up as I shut the gate, then release him) and he pivoted towards the gate on his own and stood like a gentleman while I closed the gate. :)

Yesterday was his first time in the cross ties(now that he can actually fit in them). The first time I walked off, he tried to follow but stopped when he felt pressure from the ties! He spent the rest of the time being pampered while he stood nice and calm :)

The weather has been strange here for the last two days. Before that horribly hot. Night before last we had a nasty sand storm. I had put everyone up in the barn as they have no way of getting out of the wind in my turnout which doubles as my arena. After the sand storm passed the air got still and the temp dropped a good 15*.

I decided to catch my horse and ride him. He was feeling good and I have been taught to use a horse behavior to your advantage. So we worked on speed control, even excited he did great.
Then I have been fussing with lead changes and had the nagging feeling that I have been "binding him up". So I used his forward movement, stayed out of his way, made a slight lift with my rein and a switch of leg and BAM! Super smooth changes in both directions.(as usual I over complicated)
It doesn't seem like a big deal when typing it out and the solutions sound pretty obvious but when it all goes right, boy does it feel good.
