Should I, or not?

I can try out for my college's hunt seat team next Monday. Part of me really wants to try it and make it-I think I'm a good enough rider and it would give me something to be a part of. But the other part of me doesn't want to. I'm pretty quiet and can feel uncomfortable in some social situations, and the idea of spending nights in a hotel room and hours on a bus with a bunch of outgoing people that I barely know does not sound like fun. Plus, the practices and all would take away some of my riding and training time with my own horse (we're working on being in our first AQHA show.) I kind of what to be part of the team, but I kind if want to just do my own thing and not be tied down so much too. What do you think I should do? I'm so torn...

It would probably do you a lot of good to learn to be more sociable by being on the team. If you want to do it, you should try. If you don't make the team, then don't worry about it. If you do, then give it a try. This is a once in a lifetime experience. You can always be a hermit later.

Usually the college experience only happens once-if you don't do something like this now-the opportunity might pass out of your life. What year of college are you in? Could you show this year & maybe join the team next year? You could make some life-long friends in college. Sometimes our friends come through when no else does.

Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Being on the team could end up being one of the highlight moments in your life. Not to mention, you could meet some lifelong friends and have someone to go showing with later.
