I think you've been given some good advice so far. Let me add some things for you to think about in your pro/con list.

Are there other horses out there for sale right now that will be in your price range if you sell your horse? I'm assuming from your other thread that you got her off the track fairly cheaply, and that the only money you'll have to put in the next horse is what you get out of her - that's a pretty big limitation. It's possible that you could sell her and get something *less* suitable.

What is it you really want to do with your riding? Trail ride? Take lessons? Go to local shows? How realistic is it that you'll be able to get your current horse to that goal? How realistic is it that a different horse will get you to that goal?

I get the feeling that you're "stuck" - you got this nice OTTB, you've put some work into her and gotten her to a certain point, and now you don't know how to get any further. You've got some other limitations - no ring or enclosed area, no trailer, no instructor close by. What are some creative ways to get "unstuck?"

There are no right or wrong answers to any of these questions, btw.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

I've gone over my pros and cons list quite a few times and I've seriously thought about it. I've come to the conclusion that selling Dasha would be the best for me and for her right now. I've got a lot of stress with school and friends and applying to/trying to get in college. Training a super green horse by myself just isn't what I need to be doing right now. During the summer, I had a lot more time and things were improving, but now that I've gotten into the school year with an extremely difficult school schedule, my extra time has drastically decreased and so has my work with Dasha. I've come to realize through reading and through advice of people on here that ex-racehorses, especially one as fresh as Dasha, need a lot of time and a lot of consistency and I just don't have any of that. The amount of knowledge and experience required of the trainer is also something I GREATLY lack. I just want a horse that I can grab out of the pasture and jump on them bareback with a halter and go for a ride. That's my goal right now. Showing used to be a big deal to me, but it's not so much anymore. When I go to college, I'm joining the equestrian team where I'll have access to show quality horses that I can ride. After college, my chances of showing (or wanting to show for that matter) are slim. I just want to relax and have fun and I can't do that with Dasha. So in the end, my decision was completely selfish, but I think it is the best thing for both of us. I'm going to be keeping her for another month or so in order to work on a few things that would up her price, but I'll be looking for her another home by late December. I'm sad, but I do think that in the long run, it's better this way. At least I hope it will be, haha!
Thank you all for the amazing advice. Really, y'all have helped me a ton, and I really appreciate it <3
