Yah may order one via smarpak to see if she likes it better... after asking the owner of course.

Thanks for the support :)

I have a feeling if I work on loosening up her neck muscles she'll be less inclined to brace

Get her to stretch her neck before you ride or something :)

And do you not have a tack shop near you? When I needed a bit I went to a local one and told them the situation and that I had a green horse (my draft cross that I had as a baby) and she pointed out a good bit to start her with. My horse was happy as a clam with it as is casino (the tb I'm leasing).

I have not encountered any tack shops here.. plus NZ is ridiculously expensive. I can wait a few weeks to bring in a few bit options to try for WAY less.

But yes I plan on carrot stretches and massages to loosen up her neck and promote blood flow through her back

There should be heaps of Saddlerys in Wellington depending on where abouts you are in the region.

-I've never been to any of these saddlery shops but I know they're there.

One Black Horse, Settlement Road, Te Horo (oneblackhorse.com)

Thathorse, 2 Centennial Highway, Unit C, Ngauranga, Wellington (Thathorse)

Wellington Feed & Saddlery, 946 Ohariu Valley Road 3, Ohariu Valley (Home | Feed & Saddlery | Wellington | Horse Feed Supplies)

trademe.co.nz is also a good place to find cheap horse gear, if you can work out NZs internet banking system haha

Sounds like a nice soutiion to more riding time. I think you will be a benefit to this mare. What is her owner like? Open to tack changes, etc?

Yep the owner is open to tack changes but I don't want to push my luck. It's incredible that I'm given this opportunity in the first place!

I'll be starting a new thread of our progress!
