Struck by lightning

Missed this on the news the other day, but my mom told me about it. So I thought I'd share.

We have a forum member here whose horse was struck by lightning a year (or maybe even two?) ago. Her remarkable story of rehabbing her gorgeous horse is here.

As serious as this is, I do have a funny about lightning (not horse related).

I was working on a demolition down in KY during tornado season. During one of our safety meetings on a potentially stormy day, the supervisor said "All work will stop 45 minutes before and after you hear / see lightning."

It's a running joke to this day, when that supervisor is around and it's stormy out, we always ask if we're going to get lightning in 45 minutes. OK, so maybe it's not THAT funny, guess you had to be there. LOL

I am terrified of lightning after seeing two cows struck and killed by it on separate occasions at the dairy farm where my DH used to do a relief milking 'back in the day' and a horse was struck and killed at the place I worked at before I went there.

On one of my favorite trails, there was a dead cow and calf under a tree with a split going down it from a lightning strike. The tree died later.

I ride out in the woods a lot and see a lot of trees with lightning strike marks and occasionally after a storm I will find a tree that looks like it exploded, with shattered wood going everywhere.

I am scared to death of lightning. I've had some close calls and and know of someone whose horse was killed in it's pasture by lightning. The article says your odds of getting hit is 1 in 3000. But I think if you spend a lot of time in the woods during monsoon season it HAS to be greater than that. Like I've said, I've had some really close calls that have scared me to death.

Holy.... That must have been terrifying. I'm glad everyone made it out relatively okay.
