Do you already know what artist you're going to go to?

I have a lot of tattoos by a lot of different people, and they each have their own strong areas. Some are better at color, some at portraits, some at plain black line work.

You could always visit a few different artist and have them sketch out ideas for you. Just like shopping for anything else it doesn't hurt to shop around a bit...

I love that first head shot of her- that would make for a beautiful tattoo! Are you thinking color or just black and shading?

Haha! Don't worry, I'm in no hurry. If I don't like the way it sets when we try it out, I won't get it. I definitely won't go for something other than exactly what I want and what looks good.

Pssh.I didn't pick up the wrong lead
It's called a counter canter...
...A very advanced maneuver.

im gonna give you the same advice my grandpa gave me when I got my first. Don't get it where the judge can see it. I have 5, but in my profession they are frowned upon. so by following grandpa's advice no one at work knows but at home I can go sleeveless and I can show them off.

Also another piece of advice, sure any tattoo artist can sketch something out for you, even trace it on your skin afterward... but it still doesn't really matter how it will look in the end result, trust me, I've had them trace it out and I was like yeah that looks awesome, just to see that the shading, linework ended up being totally ****ty. Good thing I could fix it with a diff. artist.
