I still hope you can find a horse you enjoy riding now and then, even if you don't own. Up in the saddle again, enjoying yourself.

Any movement on this rusty knee of mine hurts. Twisting it in any way, even a little, hurts. That stirrup I used was doing that. I don't know how English saddles work, all I know is what I felt. Pain. Ouch. I don't like the stirrups. I was okay with the rest of the saddle, didn't bother me. I could live with it. It was just that one part I hated.

Kyleen - have you tried riding without stirrups to improve your balance? It is a bit advanced and challenging for a beginning rider, but will be much easier on your knee. I sometimes think I was a much better rider as a kid, long before I started riding in a saddle and started depending on my feet to keep me where I belong.

Faolchu - I, too, hope you find the opportunity to ride as often as possible, to continue learning and growing into a true horsewoman. It is good that you are looking at the responsibilities and costs of taking care of yourself and your animals before you decide you need to have another one!

The first thing I asked her is if she would allow me to go bareback. I'd gone bareback before on another horse, not too long ago. And I did okay. Enjoyed it even. But she said no. Not my horses so I can't argue. So I asked her if she had a bareback saddle I could use. Again, she said no. Eventually she stuck me in that English saddle and man it hurt! I'm definitely going to be telling her the next lesson I have, that if I have to use those stirrups, it is eventually going to make me go to her competition for lessons, just because they have western saddles and she only has English.. It was just twerking my knee too much. I'm going to try to get her to compromise with me, just until my leg is stronger. If she won't, it's definitely going to chase me out of there. Even if it is closer and more convenient. Lessons should be enjoyable. Not torture.

It was one of my first lessons, third to be exact. And it was the first time I'd had her for a trainer. I know it's the stirrups of the saddle I was on because when I removed my leg out of them, the pain would go away and I'd be okay. But of course she would go, "Oh your foot fell out of the stirrups, stop the horse so I can put it back!" Going to be a bit more assertive next time I speak to her. Make sure she hears me. Not mean or rude mind you, just more blunt..

I hope your knee gets better and that gets sorted out the biggest issue I ever had with saddles is them being too big for me particularly the stirrups being too long I'm like five foot two or three and I weigh like 125 or 128 or something like that i weighed less back then but we actually had to punch new holes in my western saddle so that the my feet would reach the stirrups and they were still too long and if we went up anymore it would've made the stirrups bow out or something because I was small everyone at the place I kept Ryuu also made jokes about how the horses probably didn't even realize i was on them

Oh my. If you're 5'2" and have issues, I got the giggles something awful trying to think of what it would be like for my sweet sister in law to try it. She's barely 4'3". Her brother (my husband) teases her, "pocket sized and portable!" lol

Haha a couple years ago I made furry pants like Inuits wear kinda only fake fur and not nearly as well made to wear in the snow it never snows here but I'm weird and am always making something and I wore them and they were awesome and then my friend started calling me an ewok because I was short and furry and when I first got Ryuu and I would try to put his bridle on he would lift up his head and he figured out that he could just hold his head where I couldn't reach it and id give up eventually and that's how I figured out riding in a halter work just as good as a bridle if not better
