Western Necklaces?? What.

Okay this has always baffled me. I have seen so many ads for bead penchants with these strange dangling things that match your saddle in all these pretty colours.

But what is the point? Why do people wear them to ride?

Last time I wore a necklace it banged against my collar bones and it was a little thing.

I've seen people wear them at gymkhanas and stuff.

Is there a purpose or is it just for fun?

I understand matching tack sets but necklaces??

Does anyone have any or wear them and want to share?

Cause then he has no other option than to buy horse stuff for her since she doesn't like jewelry! Haha. Just my guess.

Seeing these necklaces make me think of rhinestone cowgirls. Wanting to put on a show and see who can wear the biggest, shiniest things. My sister wears that kind of junk. Waste of money if you ask me.

I am picky about my horse stuff too! So I guess it makes me kinda hard to buy for. Plus the horse stuff gets as much or more expensive than the jewelry.
I wear scrub tops and jeans to work in. I wear jeans or cotton shorts and a tshirt at home. I don't do frilly lacey stuff. I got no need of frills and fancy stuff to work around the house, yard, barn, and lounge around in. I guess all in all it DOES makes me hard to buy for when you think about it.

If I'm showing or judging I wear a nice pair of earrings and scarf or horsehair tassel on a pin at the collar but never a regular necklace. Seems awfully bulky to ride in.

I'm not really a jewelry person though. In day to day life it's rare that I wear any, even my wedding rings. I spend so much time in the barn I don't want to get them caught on something or lose a stone.

As a guy, I don't understand the bling like you have linked. But I love wearing my chainmail necklase, with a sterling silver on it "Griffin" but its under my shirt so doesn't bang around to much. The reason I wear mine, is its a comfort thing. I don't want to not have it on me at any time espessially when riding.

Rascaholic, we sound alot alike. Jeans and a plain tank top or tee for me. I understand getting jewelry caught on stuff. I used to wear jewelry buy after nearly ripping out a pair of hoop earrings on a t-post(yeah, I don't know either, lol.) I gave up on it.

Plus, you don't spend money on all the fancy smancy clothes, so more money for horse stuff!

A lot of the kids will dress up with this stuff at the competitions.
Every time I see them with something like this, all I can think is choke hazard.
When I'm feeling fancy, I'll put on some earrings then I'm dressed up.

FFA girls LOVE this jewelry. The bulkier the better. I bought a couple chain necklaces with pendants on them, like a cross and a goat, but that was pretty much the extent of what I wore.

It looks like a rainbow barfed up those necklaces then decided to make a little money on them o_O yuck!

I wear my cork and wood necklace with a little boot symbol on it (small and mostly hidden under my shirt) when I ride and work just because I generally dont take it off...more of a comfort thing like someone else said above me than anything- but other than that I dont ever wear jewelry on horseback. Ofcourse, I don't show, and actually with my job (working with mentally disabled kids) its actually dangerous for me to wear jewelry because they could grab and choke me with it if they got scared.

At home though I'm not the jewelry type either. A t-shirt and jeans are good enough for me! And when I do wear jewelry, its usually 'natural' looking wooden bracelets and stuff, or native american style things xD no sparkles or shimmering for me!

Sky, have you not seen the tack and the belts??? LOL.

Sometimes, I think barrel races are a competition to see if you can angle your horse just right while standing outside the arena to momentarily blind your fellow riders while they're running.

And if there happens to be a lion attack, they can just scatter and look like a herd of sparkly zebras, so as to confuse the poor lion who just wants to snack on a scrumptious Quarter Horse butt.

Nothing against barrel racers though... :P

Hehe! I call my hub my suggar daddy when we go out to dinner because I NEVER wear my wedding rings, he always wears his and the waitresses always ask if we want the check split. LOL!

As far as those? Never. I dig antique or retro stuff, more hippy/silver/ornate/vintage. You wouldn't catch me dead in that or with a blinged out purse or tack set.
But I like to see all the sparkly stuff on all of yours! Just not for me, I like solid black tack with no white stitching and earth tones.
