The AQHA Incentive Fund is a multimillion-dollar program involving stallion and foal nominations with pay backs to the stallion nominators, foal nominators and owners of the competing horses. The program is owned, managed and operated by AQHA.

The Incentive Fund utilizes the most familiar and proven concept in the American Quarter Horse show industry: points won at AQHA shows. Each point earned at an AQHA-approved show in the open and/or amateur division by an Incentive Fund nominated horse will be worth a specific amount. The exact amount will depend on total money in the fund for that show year and the total number of points earned in that year by Incentive Fund-nominated horses.

You can find out more at the AQHA's website.

So at the end of the year, if you have points collected throughout the year, you get money for each point? How do you know if a show is one that will give points? Is there a special name for it?

Sorry, don't know much about AQHA.

I guess my question to you OP, why the interest in the Incentive Fund if you don't have an eligible horse and know practically nothing about the AQHA?

I'd say the Incentive Fund matters a great deal to people who are involved with it.

Why would I even think it wouldn't matter? You make NO sense.

After a response like that, I wouldn't answer any of your questions.

Hey, wait a minute! I don't have a horse in there, and I'm curious to hear the answer. No need to be personally involved to want to know more about something, or to even think it's an odd thing.

to me, it almost sounds like gambling or something. And, being nominated, how do you get nominated? does this end up with a lot of inside , old boy network type shenanigans? How do QH people feel about this Incentive Fund showing?

I agree with Tiny!
There are many things that I have no clue about, western riding for one. Does this mean that I should not want to find out more about it or ask a question?

My filly is Incentive Fund. And to be honest, I really don't care. I may do it when I start showing with her more but for the most part I don't let it bother me. I guess its for the more competitive people who are looking for a little more cash...If I show and get x amount of points and get x amount of cash then great! If I don't get anything then great!

If your into showing it can be worth it. A stallion owner will nominate his stallion into the program & foals born from him are eligible.Eligible foal owner would nominate/pay their horse into program. When showing you would recieve X amount of money for point earned.
Others have similiar programs like APHA Breeders trust. There is also Kentucky bred incentive fund ,NSBA,NAERIC. Some programs are better paying than others.
AQHA IF I don't think is as popular as it once was.Payout not as good.
I had one mare that I showed successfully that was eligible for APHA BT & I REALLY regret not nominating her, could have made some of that show money back Back then I was new to showing APHA & new too little about it...
Had a gelding I did some very limited showing with that was BT & was surprised at the cheque I got with him.
Know some people that show, when looking for new prospect do look for a horse that is IF or BT
