Post What to get 14 Year Old Horse Instructor for Birthday??? Help!

This may make me sound like a clueless idiot, but I'm HORRIBLE with gifting!

I have known my BO and her family since I started riding there at age 12. I'm now 25 (almost 26) and her daughter is turning 14 today. I've been there since she was born, and I have NO IDEA what to get her for her birthday!

This is a family owned barn, so she teaches lessons to the younger kids/beginners, and also manages the feeding and cleaning up of all the horses (with supervision!). She is really responsible and mature for her age.

Ideas? Help?

I WAS going to get her a giant bucket of her favorite candy and a card, but I want to give her something more thoughtful, and less annoying to her parents

Framed photo of her with her favorite horse, or a framed photo of her in the ring teaching.

A good pair of riding gloves she wouldn't buy herself.

A nice leather belt with a silver buckle, appropriate with jeans or britches.

A good quality hoof pick on a leather strap with a snap and a brass plate on the strap with her name and maybe the farm's name. (If you go to a show, you will see a lot of show grooms with these, they clip them to a belt loop - much better than carrying one in your pocket. )

Cute horse themed earrings, small and appropriate for riding/showing - horse heads or horse shoes.

Bridle name discs with her name or initials engraved.

A piece of show luggage in her colors with a monogram - a boot, saddle, coat or hat bag, or tote bag.

A gift card for downloading tunes on to an ipod...or whatever those things are called these days...providing she has one, of course.

Movie passes to a local theater.

A gift card for her favorite tack store. If my granddaughter is any indication, kids that age love to shop for their own stuff.

Does she have her own horse? Schnieders has affordable leather halters you can add a nameplate to. I did this when my barn riding buddy turned 14 last year, she loved it!

She has 4 so there is no way I'd be able to get her 4 halters...

Get her 4 engraved tags with her horses named on them. You can even have them made into a keychain.

The fashion in hunters (don't know if that's what she shows) iused to be to have either have a leather belt with brass plates with the horse's names, or friendship style bracelets - leather strap with a snap - with a brass plate with the horse's names.

So she'd be a very cool kid with four nameplates on the belt, or four bracelets, two on each arm.

My favorite gifts from students were photos, and photo collages. Someone took a very funny cartoon called "The Riding School" and labeled all the characters in the cartoon with the names of my school horses and students and then framed it. It was very funny and I cherished it; it was a wonderful gift.

My adult non-showing boarders bought me a really nice set of English style nylon saddlebags with a monogram, I used it when I took them on away trail rides, and I am still using to this day!

With her parent's permission, a really good lock blade knife, every barn girl needs one, with her name or initials on it so it doesn't walk away, and a sheath or some way to attach to a belt loop or belt. If you can figure out a way to make this look a little girlier, that would be great too.

(Nothing says feminine like a dirty, mussed barn girl in boots and jeans with a big honkin' knife on her belt, unless it's one with the knife and a hoof pick!)

I've got lots more ideas, but they get pricier from here!

These are all great! She shows in barrels... but also started showing in Hunting/Eventing since she wants to get onto an Equestrian team for college.

I am 16 and I want EVERYTHING listed so far. So any of that should work. Also I have a bracelet that is a small braid of my horse's tail hair, (of course with permission -maybe from her parents if you want to surprise her) you can make one from her horses' tails. You can look up online how to do it and the pieces are so small you wouldn't know it's missing from the horse. I have also seen ones with charms on them (mine has my horse's name plate on it)
