What happened here?

I was clicking through another site, when i came across this horse clip. Any idea what happened there guys?? Just curious to see people's opinions!

Looks like the horse didn't recognize the jump as an oxer .. possibly blended with the second element of the obstacle..

Once he got up high enough to see that it was, he started 'reaching desperately" for it ...lol.

Poor guy.. there was a similar jump in the olympics this year I believe.

Think of it not as a failure but as a success in how not to do it.

I may be totally off, but from what others have said about the line of vision, a horse also needs its head up high right at a jump, and at that one it looked like the rider actually over corrected the tossing of the head, so possibly it wasn't able to see the entirety of the jump and tried to compensate?
