I had a farrier we(my family) had used for a couple of years. I knew his wife and daughter(adorable little thing!) Actually considered them friends.

When it came time for the daughter to be old enough to ride on her own they were looking for a kid safe horse that had been to the mountains, could pack, do play days, rodeos and parades. I offered my old mare who I dearly loved but had out grown. He agreed to trade shoeings for the mare.

I got him to come out once to shoe ONE horse and they disappeared off the face of the earth with my mare.

Oy... I've had nothing but bad farriers the past few years. Up until 2 or 3 years ago my horses had the same farrier my entire life (he was a close family friend), but he quit farriering after his son passed away in an accident with a horse.
Since he quit, I seriously have not had the same farrier come out twice.

One guy I had come out completely cut the frog off of one of my horses. On top of that he also smacked that same horse on the shoulder with his rasp.

The last farrier I had come out was 3 hours late. He didn't apologize, didn't give a reason. I was furious.

Ugh, some of these are really horrifying. Drives me mad that they call themselves "professionals" when they behave in such a way.
