A few days ago while I was a work (I work in a restaurant), I watched a truck and horse trailer with at least 3 horses inside pull up and park. The couple came inside and had lunch and sat there for at least an hour. They didn't check the horses once. This struck me as... odd. I mean, I haven't yet pulled a horse trailer so maybe I'm just crazy but it seemed irresponsible to me (and rude, poor horses didn't get a nice lunch and rest from their travels). So, I have to ask - in your opinion, is this fine?
Every time I've gone on road trips and had a dog with me, when we stop for lunch we have some form of fast food and usually eat it in the car and take the dog for a walk, let it have a drink etc. Obviously I wouldn't expect them to take the horses out for a stroll around the busy parking lot, but they didn't even check on them once!
So someone please, ease my troubled mind!
They're fine. I can assume they were within proximity right. An hour is not a very lengthy period of time. As long as the horses are seasoned travelers and get along well, most trailers separate the horses enough that you shouldn't have to worry about to much. I have done many long trailer trips when I hauled my own horses and I know we have done pit stops for lunch or dinner on the way to or from a show.
